The Bass Player Saved The Song..

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by ZenG, Oct 2, 2017.

  1. Name a song , in your opinion, that would never have been a hit or otherwise noteworthy if it hadn't been for the excellent playing and bassline provided by the bass player..

Flea playing on Bust a Move by Young MC. It made the song, and apparently Flea got something like $200 for it.

That's right, without Inspector Matt Irving on bass nobody would be listening to Iron Out The Rough Spots. Paul Young is a guy who could sing me the telephone book.

Well, much as I adore Tony Williams' drumming on the original track, ya gotta admit that without the bass part Stanley Clarke's "Lopsy-Lu" wouldn't be much of a tune at all.

Too Shy by Kajagoogoo. The bass melody lines are more predominant than the chorus vocals! Nick Beggs was musically ahead of his time in the pop genre. But Limahl simply needed to be shot.
