I live in a very small town and one of the responsibilities of being in a band is that we do quite a few charity gigs. We have to pick and choose which ones we do though or we'd be playing for free every weekend.

I thought a thread dedicated to this topic might be be cool. I think as a musician it's a responsibility that we, from time to time, get above ourselves and do something for others. After all, we are the ones who bring in the people, and therefor the money.

It's also a great way for start-up bands to get out there and be heard. Many of our early gigs were booked through benefits.

The younger players might "benefit" from a thread like this.

Play for free. It just feels good.
