The Best Stainless Steel Taperwound

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Rafterman, Nov 29, 2001.

  1. which brand offers the best in stainless steel taperwound strings?
  2. sorry for not being specific in my kind of sound...i'm looking for nice low end growl, kinda like a Gary Willis type tone...I have a 4 string bass.

please don't direct me toward the Gary Willis signature strings.

Raftreman, how about the Gary Willis signature set:D Sorry, I couldn't resist! Dean Markley SR2000 are good. I have always had trouble intonating taperwound sets. I can't get decent intonation past the 10th fret with taperwound sets. The tuner says the fretted note and harmonic matches (12th and 19th fret check) but to my ear they sound wrong. Non tapers Are perfect everytime. I know John Turner will tell you otherwise:p
  4. looks like i found just what i was looking for!!!

    thanks man!

SR2000. Best tapered SS I have ever played.

And rs, I will disagree with you about the intonation thing as well.:)
  6. so it's true that Taperwounds have better intonation?
  7. Have you tried the La Bella Super Steps yet?I have been using them since about 94 and they give me the tone/sound that I prefer (round/piano).
