IMHO: 1983, hands down (which is pretty sad for me, considering that I was 4). At that time you had everything from Fender's Elites, Fullerton AVRI's, walnuts, wide neck percisions and bullets to early model Stingrays and G&Ls. There were also Kramer lumies, Alembics, Aria pro SB1000's, Ibanez Musicians, Peavey T40s and a considerable list of cool MIJ basses readily available on the market. Search "1983 Bass" under Google images and you might as well consider that a centerfold in my book.

What say you all? What year and why?

I can't quite see, but are the seats on that thing bubinga? Really affects the tone, especially with the mercury outboard
