A word of warning to newcomers! This site can influence you to part with your dearest treasures all for the sake of GAS! My most recent escape from the perils of this site happened just last night. I was considering trading my longest standing bass, 14 years of history with her, for another very nice instrument I found here in the classifieds. I had been mulling this trade over since last week, and had pretty well convinced myself to go for it. The trade, an EXTREMELY nice boutique bass from a super guy to do business with. My part of the trade, my trusty old Modulus Q5. I got out the camera , snapped a few shots to forward to the trader, and immediately realized I was making a mistake. The pics made me realize just how nice my old girl actually was. Picked her up, played her for about an hour, then sent a PM to the seller apologizing and withdrawing my offer. The moral of the story, if there is one, is appreciate what you have. Doesn't matter if it's a Fodera or an SX. If the bass speaks to you, does what you ask of it, and it isn't a "have to" case,....HOLD ONTO IT!!! GAS is just that, a syndrome. A case of, "I want", other than "I need". So take heed fellow TB'ers, don't fall victim to the perils of the classifieds. Save up your money, buy what you can justify,...and KEEP THEM ALL ! And now, my longest lasting partner in musical crime,...Jezebel.
Voodoo, A Big +1 Is it me or are a lot of your anecdotal stories also involving TB now? TB Rules but it's a "Surf at your own risk" thing especially the classifieds God Bless, Ray
You said a mouthful! A big part of me (well all of me apart from the little GAS gland in my brain) wishes I'd never stumbled across the TB classifieds a few years ago. I'd still have just two or three basses and a LOT more money in savings.
Thank you, ...she is a looker,...AND a player! Cuts through the mix like you can't believe. IMHO, EMG PU's with the BQC pre is the way to go with the Q5's,...the Bart system pales beside them in these particular basses.
Awesome post Voodoo. I saw you started it, and I knew I had to jump in. Im still looking for this bass.. I love my Geddy, but it doesnt quite do everything I want/need. One day though! And for now, I love my bass. Thanks for the post Voodoo!
Dude, that is one funktastic green bass! Unfortunately, your lesson comes about 20 years too late for me. Oh, well. Live and learn.
ha ha... there are many a bass i've mistakenly parted with (selling my Fodera now to replace what i so sorely miss), but there are plenty of basses i'd never have found that now i say i'd never part with if i didn't take the plunge every now and again. it's hard to let go of basses that you once favored, but if the bass's time has past for you, pass it on to someone else so that it can inspire someone else. who knows, maybe you'll find something new that takes your playing to new places. BE DANGEROUS! by the way, i miss my Q5...looked JUST like yours, but had barts.
i'm gonna steal that modulus! just kidding, glad you're holding on to it. just curious, what were you thinkin of replacing it with?
I agree with you 100% and beautiful bass...but, at the same time I am so glad I found TB. I have played for 23 years now and was always the guy that could play well enough but knew nothing about gear. Not one thing. When I was younger, I didnt have any money so it was pointless to stay on top of the hottest new thing. Ive learned so much in terms of gear and other things that Ill live with the GAS and let it out when the time is right!
Same thing happened to me recently with my KT-88 loaded Mesa Bass 400. I don't know what I was thinking! But it's safe at home (and will be!).
The Roland is the GK-3b. I've been using it with a Roland GR-20, mainly for recording. Recently though, thanks to TB and good old GAS, I've been taking a Roland V-Bass I found here on the classifieds to my gigs. The Mod runs into my Mesa 400+/ampeg svt 410he's and the V-Bass into my aguilar 500/GS410 rig. I can switch from my Q5's typical sound to a fretless, or a Hofner, or a P bass with flats. This particular purchase was one of the GOOD GAS attacks! I better go now before I cruise the classifieds again and find something else I just can't live without!
Does TB promote GAS? Well, yeah. But it (or rather, y'all) also has helped me become a more judicious buyer and probably saved me some cash and spared me some hassles. Aw who am I kidding? BUY! BUY! BUY!
