Looks great. Lots of depth in that quilt and the natural figured maple strips break up the trans black nicely. I think a lot of times trans black can wash out the figure in a nice piece of wood and make it look like it's just a solid color. The neck laminations fight that effect and make the body wings stand out.

Amazing work as usual, very nice. For any of you out there thinking of it, I'd suggest pulling the trigger with Mr. Rockhewer before his base prices get up there with Alembic or Rick Toone... :D

Edit: I think I'm seriously going to start looking into that catalyzed urethane finish now that I have regular access to a good spray booth. You still using that stuff?

Holy carp man! That's beautiful work! How in the world did you keep the dye from leeching into all the non dyed maple? That is truly stunning work. As usual..

About a week ago I was talking with a good friend who is a professional luthier and he was saying that he is now considering moving to that as well. Apparently one of his mentors uses it exclusively and has for quite some time. As my friend said, he's just tired of trying to reinvent the wheel.

Another masterpiece Rock! Sweet Jumpin Jehosephat! The more I see that body style, the more I like it, the proportions are just right in every detail. Combined with the metalwork, inlay, and incredible finish, that's about as good as it gets in custom bass building. Wish I could afford to hire you! Is that the hipshot 2 piece bridge system, minus the stock string holder? Thinking about using one of them for my eventual Alembic K build.

Thanks for all the kind words! :)
I just used 3m green painters tape... but then....it's Not to difficult when there is a stringer of ebony separating the two. ;)
Yes, it is the Hipshot D style bridge that I always use... and my tailpiece .

Maybe a silly question but did you just not put any dye on the ebony?

No, it was taped off as well... & didn't need any help anyway because it was a nice jet black ;)
