What does this guy use on the Jesus Fist Tapes, and the new "Studies"? http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444463 http://www.ruinerseverhead.com/
Daniel- did you try to send him a message on myspace? This is my first listen through. I'm hearing bass fuzz (obviously)on the first two tracks. Great fretless lines on Bound!
isn't the friendly neighborhood Jeff Schmidt playing on those? Maybe send his a PM. Or maybe I'm thinking of something else.
did someone say Ruiner Severhead? The Ruiner Severhead stuff is a combo of several pedals, plugins and processes. The chain I used - mostly went like this - MTD535 Piccolo Bass -> Millennia TD-1 preamp/DI -> Boss GT6B (s/pdif)-> Protools Mix++ system running as a real time EFFECT RACK (s/pdif)-> Protools mBox pro for recording and edting. Some of the effects used in the protools mix++ system were - sansamp, ARBORETUM sonic decimator, SoundToys Pitch / Time Machines (these are based on eventide code) mcDsp Compressor Bank & Filter Bank, Moogerfooger, ReVibe, Echoboy, LexiVerb, Focsurite EQ, MDT Multiband compressor, TC Master X, DAD Valve & Tape. Others too (like waves stuff) - but those were the most used. But the real secret weapons to the Ruiner Severhead material were metasonix scrotum smasher, waveshaper & butt probe tube pedals. Also EH Tube Zipper pedal and GI fuzz pedal. Finally - the king capitol punishment glamour box. I would often take the recorded tracks and then send them BACK out to these pedals for live tweaking while being re-recorded back into the protools system. The metasonix stuff is too unstable to just plug in & let it roll - but rules to tweak live. The Demond Wilson etudes & Meat is Murder - Jay played his Nordy bass into the TD1 and then on to the GT6B using the same chain into protools I used for the Ruiner Severhead material. We didn't use the metasonix stuff on the Demond Wilson tracks - but did use the GI Fuzz and Tube Zipper. Maybe I'll make a video to show how all this works. It's pretty involved.
Huh. I wondered if you guys used a multi or not. Im not about to go that route again lol, but its interesting that it all sounds goooooood. Kinda makes me think that the artist might be a greater influence on the sound than the effects....... LOL Tru dat..... your post hurt my head at first....
Everything is what you make of it, especially effects. It's about balance, and knowing how to get the most from your tools. A question for Jeff : Can the Glamour Box be bypassed? I was under the assumption that you couldn't bypass it - if a signal passes through it's mashed, no choice. If it could function as a stompbox I would be interested...a loop seems too much trouble for something that's already huge.
neither the glamour box or the scrotum smasher have by-pass. They're not really made for set it & forget it pedal type operation - but instead for real time tweaking and manipulation. I too have thought about putting them in a chain with a loop for live performance. But I can play the Ruiner Severhead material live without having to do that. I just load up the sounds/samples I created with those effects into Ableton Live and map them on a midi controller to fire at will. See vid here.
Ruiner Severhead is giving me such massive GAS!!!!! That is the setup I have been searching for but unable to afford for years. Nicely done Jeff!!!
This is so good I've offered my services. I expect an embalmed featus in the post stamped with their answer.
http://www.jayterrien.com/mp3/The Jesus Fist Studies/Etude4.mp3 "Satan tried Lightning about 4 years ago, Bullets from an inner city gang in KCK when my grandson wouldn't join their inner city gang because he loved Jesus, a Poisonous Snake crawling across my ankle, that was on the gas pedal, going 55 mph down a major Highway heading for the nearest Food store, and Satan Lost each time. And that's only a little of what he's tried." Jesus Fist Is Praying For All Of You............
Just downloaded the Jesus fist tapes. So kickass. Is the wah sounding stuff Tube Zipper? Or some form of computer based effects?
some wah "like" effects were made from the Tube Zipper - but those tend to sound more "oscillator-esque". the more traditional "wah" sounds were actually the wahs in the Boss GT-6B. That pedal has some really nasty effects in there if you're willing to tweek. layers and signal flow is key to most of the heavily processed sounds. for example - distortion/OD BEFORE the wah PLUS fuzz/OD AFTER the wah creates some pretty amazing sounds.
It'd be cool if you could rig a bank of tasers via midi to fire at the audience. Then sample their screams of pain/shock/fear back into the song.
