I find it hard to believe that this pedal is not frequently seen or discussed enough by bass players.

After wanting some kind of dedicated freeze, and after I checked the freeze, deep freeze, Tc infinite, new Mxr Layers, etc. (I have a boss DD500 delay, but I think its too much for the use I want from it), I decided for and got this pedal just a couple of days ago, and I'm having so much fun dialing in new sounds on this thing, I think I played almost 4 hours today with it, ideas were really flowing.

Options and sounds, combining effects and freeze modes, are endless with this thing. All modes are so much fun, and none of them are useless, you can play with the knobs for each mode and every knob(like treeshold or decay) make it change how the mod works dramatically, and when you add some effect to the mode, buum, another dramatic change! You can have really weird or controlled sounds as you want, but I find it incredible how the bass signal (if that is my goal) never dissapears. No volume or bass signal is missing when engaged either effects, or modes, or both. You can use just the effects, and they are seriously good, Now I want the expression that will surely add another dimension to it.

This pedal sells used for a couple of hundred, sometimes less. I understand it takes a couple of pedalboard spaces, and everyone thinks twice on buying a pedal today when great multifx with lot of options like HX stomp are available, but seriously, I doubt some of those units could bring the level of awesomeness as this thing does (if more than just a freeze is your thing).

You got any experience with this baby?

Have it(and the OG), dig it, and like you, I’m not big on multi-effects as I can’t believe one manufacturer can do a variety of single effects all to my liking. I prefer to pick and choose on the relative merits of each particular unit, plus I hate dealing with menus. I use a volume pedal in the loop in order to fade in and out.

You can connect a volume pedal to the pedal to fade in/out the effect?

Set the dry and effect levels equally(to taste), then go from the loop send into whatever volume pedal you have(I like the little yellow ones from AMT, small footprint), then out of the volume to the loop return. If you have any problems, get back to me. It’s great for creating a drone beforehand, and swelling it in.

Not the Plus version, but I do have a first- gen SE. I looked at the ➕️ when it came out but decided to stick with the original because the on-board effects Iooked quite restricted. I use mine in a parallel loop courtesy of an EHX tri-parallel mixer, so there is no dry signal coming back, just the sustained tone. I can then use a multi-effect (Zoom MS-50G) after the SE and not in the FX loop. Because the multi is not in the SE loop I can still access it when the SE is not engaged for additional layering.

Most of the effects sound great on their own, and you can bypass the freeze modes with a touch of the switches, yes, a little restricted on the tweaking side, BUT, the real magic happens and I think the point of this pedal is when you engage some effect when you are in some of the freeze modes, for example, I had a very slow delay setting on the echo mode by accident, ok, with Auto mode and effect engaged, it becomes just another monster, it changes the freeze motive, and it just drones accordingly within the delay (or any effect) ,but not in the expected way... a thing within a thing... then you change just a little the rate or depth knob of the effect and it is just another thing, so possibilities with effects dronning into freeze modes in correlation with each of the effects settings and movements are very much endless... incredible!

That sounds cool.
I was just thinking the ability to control the wet level with a pedal would be good.

The other thing is, while the Plus has a small variety of included effects(which the first version didn’t), if you have a specific unique box you’d want to use just on the captured note only, place that in the chain before the volume. I’ve done some wonky things like using the EHX Pitchfork with expression in pitchbend mode, the drone experiencing a creepy sea-sick up and down, while my main signal is unaffected. Any other boxes located in the chain with expression pedal controlled parameters are fun as well. You may have to have an auxiliary board with expressions only. It’s madness, I tell you, complete madness!

Sounds like fun! Do you have anything recorded I could check out?

I play in an instrumental trio that could use some different sounds. The challenge is keeping my chops up, while also spending time learning to use effects...effectively:D

This is a brief but superb demo (with a midi keyboard) of what this pedal is capable of:

Remember, this is not a multieffect pedal per se, it is a FREEZE pedal with some great effects within it's chain to bring some movement to the freeze sound. In top of that, you can also use those effects as a stand alone effects if necessary :)
