  1. Say what you will. Steve Wishnevsky is a hero to many of us. His shop burned to the ground this morning. He had no insurance on the business. It's very sad.

  2. Steve inspired me to begin building my own basses. A total mentor, and we have never met face to face. The work I did on my two Wishbasses was the inspiration to learn a new craft.

I really hope he can bounce back. The world needs Wishbasses.

  5. I don't care for his basses, but this is terrible news. I hope nobody was injured.

This was sorry news indeed. Wish posted pics on FB. Totally destroyed his workshop. Lovely basses, with a lovely attitude. I have 3, all different. It is a real loss, not so much for the basses and guitars, but for the image of one man doing what he believed in and doing it in the face of a culture that more and more relies of large corporations, foreign manufacture and endless copies of copies.

Oh, that is tragic. My family lost pretty much everything we owned in a flood a few years back, but to have worked so hard to build up a business and have it burned away...that is just terrible. My thoughts are with him and his family.

And sadly part of this is driven by consumers who shop based mostly on price and want "stuff" as cheap as possible. A manufacturer either has to raise prices or cut corners in order to make a living.

Hope no one was hurt and that he can rebuild if he so desires.
  16. Now it sounds like he's taking it in stride and hopes to rise again from the ashes!!

At least it sounds like he is keeping a positive attitude about it. Being uninsured in that situation would scare the crap out of me. Too easy for someone to get hurt or someone else's property to get damaged. Insurance is expensive and almost prohibitive, but pretty much necessary. Like if there were customer instruments in the building that now have to be replaced, that can ruin you.
