    Well, this is in Misc. Because it's musically realted, but other than to announce what I'm gonna do it serves no real purpose, i.e. no querries or such. If you feel like moving it, go ahead...

    The Frankenbass Project:
    I'm planing on taking the neck off of my current bass, and stapling the thing to a Warmoth Body. While it (the neck) is out of commision, I am going to have the frets leveled, and the postion markers painted with phosphorus, so I can get a psuedo-LED effect, and can see better in darker settings. Then, going to get a new nut, a bit of Corian I can get for free.
    Gonna bust out with some Hipshot (or some sort of higher end) Tuners, possibly some Hipshot Xtenders.

    After I do all that to the neck, I'm going to bolt the sucker to a Warmoth Dinky Carved Top P, drop a SD 1/4er P and J, with and a 3 band EQ with Vol/Vol pots, and , possibly throwing in the Aguilar OBP-1 for good measure. (all Black hardware, of course) and some straplocks.

    Sure it'll run me some dough, but, 1) I KNOW I'll like the neck. 2) It'll be cheaper than buying a whole new neck. 3) It'll kick some serious butt.

    After all that...my biggest concern...the color!:p

    How much do you think this whole enterprise is going to cost you?

    heck, bout 7-1000...somewhere in there, depending on woods for the bodies, the color finishes, the cost of fret-leveling and what not. There are all sorts of variables, the actual pup choice, the bridge, weather or not i get the OBP-1, ect.
    ...It's just an eventual project. Just something I'm gonna get done, because I want a really nice 4 in my corner, and I really wanted a warmoth anyway, so this is sorta a best of both worlds deal. It's second in line after whatever the next bass of mine ends up being. And possibly even after the new rig components. So this might not be gotten to for over a year. I'm just really drooling about it now, so I decided to speak up.

    Not to rain on your parade, Brendan, but don't you think you could get a killer used instrument for the same amount of money? I have a bass I was considering modifying, but it occurred to me that eBay has frankenbasses on sale all the time - a lot of them with first rate parts - going for less than $500, $300, even.

    Just a thought.

    heck yeah the thought has occured to me. This is just one of those things I'm gonna do when I end up having that particular amount of money to burn. I might just get a nice bass, I might not. It's just something I intend to have done in the future. Heck, whck I get the money, there might be a bass I really want, and the project'll get set further back.
    This whole thing is more of just a "File Under Future Maybe" than a "I'm GOING to Do it" kinda deal. Like I said, it's just something I want done.
