The Fretless Club (Part IV)

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Engine207, Aug 24, 2012.

  1. Yes sir! 2112 is my favorite Rush album next to Hemispheres.

Yeah they do, the bass sounds so so warm and full. I normally keep the pup selector on both, but the one near the bridge keeps the mids at an awesome level for the traditional "Jaco"-esque style so I don't really have to mess with the on-board EQ, every now and then I'll boost the bass and low mids. Anyone had luck with the BTB Premium line? I was wondering how those Nordstrand pickups sound.
  2. I've read nothing but great things about them, but I've never used them myself. There's a BTB Club somewhere though and surely someone there has used them.

And our Rush tastes are the same, lol... Both fantastic albums. :bassist:

Same here! Hemispheres was my first Rush album and still my favorite. 2112 is great, but I still love Hemispheres. Listened to it over and over when I was 10 or 11 year old. Literally wore the album out.

Just poured some epoxy(System 3) on one of my bass necks. Thanks to those that have contributed helpful information on accomplishing this process. Engine207, JacoNot, Bruce Johnson, LewisBassGuitar, and Beej produced some great tips, photos, and step by step guides that have helped me immensely. If anyone is looking to DIY these are great resources. As far as my next step, waiting for the epoxy to cure and then prepare to sand and radius the fingerboard.

Too cool. I can't get an ebow to drive any of my basses very well. My GWB-35 Fretless only has a bridge pickup and I think to get the ebow to work well, you need a neck pickup. My Michael Kelly ABG has only piezos and doesn't work at all. Same with my Lightwave bass. Not at all.

I have a FrankenJazz bass with passive pickups and it does work a little on that one.

    Great tone.

I've heard it works better if you get the string vibrating first, by somehow plucking it. I think that's from a Michael Manring interview, or maybe a video.

I've also heard of using two ebows at once, for bass.

It almost sounds like a flute in the beginning. That's beautiful.
