The gut is in the way

  1. Any bassists here in the battle of the bulge? When you have a gut, how do you balance the bass without the use of the left hand?

It's going to be a week or so before I can hook up with my teacher for lesson #2 and I want to get a handle on this before then.

When standing, the upper bout hits me square in the gut and little of the lower bout contacts my thigh. So the bass dosen't balance at all.

So the gut has to go. But until then, anyone have any advice? Thanks
  2. Try placing the perfling on the upper bout of the bass on a the first belt loop to the left of your zipper. Now stick your left leg out a little and brace the bass against your left leg. That should do the trick.
