Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice on my headphones problem. Long story short, I just bought some Shure SRH840's to replace my mid-level Sony noise canceling headphones. The Sony's had developed a buzz on certain frequencies that was incredibly annoying and made listening to music a frustrating activity. Anyway, after listening to the Shures for a couple minutes, I noticed that they too have a slight buzz. It's not nearly as bad as the Sony's were, but the Sony's got worse over time, and I assume the Shure's will do the same thing. I was listening to a CD through a computer at a medium volume. I'm very frustrated by this and am wounding if anyone has had a similar experience. I am hesitant to simply exchange them for a new pair because I did the same thing with the Sony's when I first got them, but the problem wasn't fixed. Is there another pair that you guys recommend that will no have any distortion. I feel that if I pay $150 for a pair of professional monitoring headphone that I shouldn't have to deal with distortion. Any advice I appreciated.
The first thing I would check if this buzz/distortion could be coming from you player. Have you tried listening to these headphones in other devices, or even other locations? Computer soundcards can produce buzzing due to all the electronics surrounding them. Even an external player next to a computer or a monitor can produce buzz. If two totally different sets of headphones share similar buzzing/distortion problem, I find it highly unlikely that the problem is with the headphones.
