The holes don't line up on my AVRI 62 P Bass pickup cover?

This is weird. I was thinking of having the holes drilled and putting the chrome pickup and bridge covers on my AVRI 62 P Bass.

It doesn't have the holes pre-drilled for them, but the pick guard does have holes through it for the pickup cover.

The weird thing is that the holes in the pickup cover are farther apart than the holes that are already in place on the pick guard.

Has anyone seen this? What's going on here? Is it the wrong pickup cover?

  2. How much of a difference is there?

In the attached pic, the holes on the left are lined up. You can see through the hole on the right of the pickup cover that the underlying hole in the pick guard is not exposed at all. All you can see is tort.

The holes in the pickup cover are about 1/4" farther apart than the holes in the pick guard.

    Bend it to fit?

It's funny you say that. I was just doing some Googling and came across this thread at another forum:

    http://forums.fender.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=60321

In the fourth post from the top, someone says they read about having to bend it.

Testing it out on mine, it does flex pretty easily. Maybe it's just that simple?

  6. +1 slight push down upon installing should get it.

If it doesn't fit, force it. This is a common approach to such a problem. It is wrong and always has been wrong. But, who cares? Right?

  8. Very helpful advice, here...

Is the cover the unit that came wiith the bass? Was it under some kind of pressure that would have caused it to flatten out a bit? I only ask because its curve looks assymetrical, although that could be an optical illusion.

This - it happens sometimes with those covers, since they're not that hard to bend... I would bend the cover so that it fit over the holes without any other assistance, then install it...

OK, how about suggesting an alternative, then???

I would guess that the holes in the PG are probably spot on, since they were CNC'd, and probably line up with the holes in the body - so, the cover must be off, right???

Yeah, it just looks a little off in the picture. It's pretty symmetrical in real life.

Just to clarify, the wood body of the bass doesn't have holes in it yet. They ship the AVRI basses without the holes in case someone never wants to drill them I guess.

I plan on getting it drilled along with some setup work it needs tomorrow. The amount of flex in the pickup cover has convinced me it'll be pretty easy to get it on.

On a related note, does anyone know what kind of screws I need for these chrome covers?

drill the body to match the pickguard, pinch the cover a little, screw it in, no big deal.

you use the same pickguard screws as on the rest of the pickguard.

They usually use the same screws for the PG...
