The "Hundred and under" club

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by tomd999, Jul 25, 2009.

  1. Hi All,

Well I searched and I didn't find one so I figured with jobs in the tank and everyone losing money, it was time to start a club for the low end of the low-end so to speak.

    Rules are simple:
    1) The bass has to cost you $100 US or less including tax and shipping.
    2) No numbers, I'm far too lazy for that.
    3) You have to post a pic and tell the story where/how you got your under a hundred honey.

Here's my "Hundred dollar honey" A US Peavey Fury off of CL this afternoon. For a C note I picked up the bass, gig bag, a Crate practice amp and a cable. It still has the original strings and 0 fret wear, I really don't think it was played more than 20 minutes.

Well my first bass was $127 with a guitar amp. So the real price was $107... does this count?

R.A.L. Guitars. Korean I think. Nice birdseye maple neck, rosewood board. Decent P/J. Got it for my wife, but of course I'll use it for a backup if necessary.

  6. Tommygunn,

Sorry man, $107.00 isn't equal or less than $100.00.

Gotta have some rules but feel free to start a "A little over a hundred club" ;)

Crap... what if I give you $7?

  8. Tommygunn,

Well, not that I'm refusing free money but it just wouldn't be right.

Why don't you give your wife/GF/SO $107.00, sell it to her for $107.00 and then buy it back for exactly $100.00. They get enough cash for a 6 pac of quality beer or a really cheap bottle of Tequila (El Toro comes to mind) and you get into the club. Works for me. Course you could just tell me you did that but you have to buy your other half at least a 6 of Sam Adams in order cover your story.

    $93.50 shipped, eBay '07.

Original owner had an SX rosewood P neck on it, along with EMG-Hz's, CTS 250k's, Orange Drop cap, and a tort 'guard.

I had a maple SX J neck laying around, so I swapped it. Much better.

  10. $25.00 for this mid 80's Kramer Focus 7000...........Candy Apple Red , from my sister.....It was left in the back of one of her Uhaul trucks she rents..........so I gave her $25.00 for it and it plays & sounds very sweet !
I did some thinning of the herd last Christmas and gave it to my Nephew.

  11. Great score!!! I payed twice that for mine and no bag, amp, or cable + it was beat up (it came from a store). Still love it though!

Heres my $100 bass. 1989 Squier II Precision. Bought it off a Co-worker who got it on Ebay. It wasn't set up that great so I got it, sanded down the back of the neck, and shimmed out the neck and it plays like butter. He played it after I did this and was amazed. His words were "Dude I didn't think this thing could feel this awesome, I kind of want it back now".
I still have it so I won.

  14. Hiya,

OK, your right, I didn't see that coming but here's another idea. You still give her $107.00, you sell her the bass and then you buy it back for $80 then you convince her to take you out to the movies. You get into the club and you get a movie.

    How's that work?

Here's my 30" short scale Grimm.

I got it for $75 at a pawnshop a few years ago. I had never tried a shortscale before, so I basically got it for the novelty.

The headstock says "Regal", and thanks to a fellow TB'er I've been able to trace it's pedigree as a Sears model sold in the early '80s.

The previous owner put on the Grim Reaper sticker, hence the nickname.

It's a fun bass to play, and records well too for those times I want a nice "Grimm" growl. :)

Stolen from my original post about my ≦$100 bass:

So, I started my day like I always do - a cup of coffee, bowl of oatmeal, and a craigslist search for "bass". I have found a few deals here and there, but yesterday was the mother lode!

Under a layer of dust thicker than the figurines in my wife's china cabinet, was a near flawless, '03 black-and-white MIM Fender Precision that had been in this guy's closet for about four years - virtually untouched. Aside from one minor ding on the upper horn, all it needed was a good cleaning (and a fresh set of R. Coccos).

    The price - $100.

I've since added the Gotoh 201 bridge, a black/red/black pickguard, and a custom logo. It's been posted in other threads (Show your <insert criteria>)...
