... who hates Led Zepplin and finds no appeal in Rush but loves Jaco and WR and finds The Clash as interesting and important as Bach and Cream but has no use for Stu Hamm while appreciating his technique while liking Victor Wooten and who plays Lakland and Fender basses wtih Eden amps and lives in Central Illinois and managed a guitar store for 11 years but doesn't any longer and is mostly bald club.... What is it with all the "let's pat each other on the back because we have the same basses or the same amps" clubs?! Sycophantic hero worship carried out to gear? OK, I joined the Lakland club when I first came on board, but all I see in those clubs is "ohhh! Looky what I got" and a lot of lame prosyletizing for that gear. I've poked around the Christian Praise and Worship club thing, but most of the those people are playing stuff that's pretty removed from what we do at my church so there's not much useful stuff there. So, I decided to make my own club. Anyone else wanna join?
/sigh. the answer, folks, is if you don't like something, don't -do- it. it is not the answer to do that same thing you don't like, but even worse. and yeah, i agree. talkbass is about -community- not fracturing ourselves off into exclusionary groups. with some of the recent shennanigans with these so-called clubs we're (site mgmt) considering taking actions.
No not really, it sounds kinda lame. No pics and no positive attitude equals lame for me. But hey, thanks for asking and nice Lakeland Pat on back, Pat on back.
well i thought it was funny, if a little ranty at the end, I think the point is conveyed, with the club name. My gf is ginger, and an athiest and I'm british, and I play Warwick, but I'd like to join, can I be number 2 lol
Sooooooo tired of these threads. More tired of these than actual club threads that actually manage something.
Well, the "tounge in cheek" didn't come off as well as I thought it would... Actually I haven't spent much time in ANY club thread, it was just amusing because I saw an apparent increase in esoteric club threads showing up. I guess I am hoist by my own petard in this one... BTW, it's "Lakland", not "Lakeland"... Oops, being pendantic and curmedgeonly again. jte
I'm a balding 43 year old white male that has been married to the same asian female with two kids for 18 years and thinks SX bass guitars are spam...want to join my club?
Yes, but I think there is relevance for sub-groups within the community. The clubs, like Lakland Owners, Fender owners, etc do have a place IMHO, a central point for folks to discuss/post their basses etc. Without that we'd have too many similar threads and navigation would be harder than it is already (not criticism intended). I think it is good to have a 'go to place' when you need info, advice, etc. Now the other type of clubs, whether they be with or without religion, two-headed bass players club, no club club, etc. should go IMHO. Let's recover the band-width! Where you draw the line, of course, is the difficult question and how you police it in a way that doesn't ask too much additional time from what I imagine are already pretty busy mods is another? Do you keep the 'P bass club' but get rid of the club 'Basses with One Pick-up' for example? Personally, I think you do! I'll stop there before I start on polls! At the end of the day we're here at the pleasure of the folks who run and moderate TalkBass. The set the rules/policy and we have a choice! Now before you ask, my disclosure statement: I participate in several bass related 'clubs' here, I'm not fussed about numbers, I wear a size 11 shoe, don't take sugar with my coffee and my cat is called Madison......
FWIW - Basic clubs - OK by me. The first few sarky clubs - still OK by me. The huge proliferation of "I wanna be sarky too" clubs - getting pretty old. just sayin'...
<Malagmyr> This linguistics professor was lecturing the class. <Malagmyr> "In English," he explained, "a double negative forms a positive. In some languages, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative." <Malagmyr> "However," the professor continued, "there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative." <Malagmyr> Immediately, a voice from the back of the room piped up: "Yeah..... right...."
