i keep hearing the main influence on tone is technique. Is that true?
A little background I want deep girth and don't want to mic a cab.

I wrote this in another thread awhile back.
Once in a store i was playing some gear and someone i knew came up to me and said hey, i thought that sounded like you.
Considering i was playing a bass i never owned with rounds that i never use and an amp i never owned.
Everything has a factor into how you can sound, but technique is the major factor.

Absolutely true, or at least it is for me.

It's a combination, I would not say technique is the main, EQ also influences a lot. What is the first thing you do when plugging in in a new amp? Set the EQ the way you usually like it, well, that is what I do at least.
