Well, then, how 'bout a little Mingus................played by Jaco.

(This is Jaco on his '62 Fender Jazz that he defretted.)

Assuming what is really meant is the Fender model, Jazz Bass...
Although when he toured the US and then recorded the Beck-ola album he was using a Telecaster Bass, earlier on Ron Wood rolled out some surprisingly fat tones on Truth...

While I’m a P guy(never really got on with the thinner J neck, but I have a couple P/J’s), this is tone heaven for me...Fender, Roto Rounds, grindy Brit amp..

Not only that, but this, naked rhythm section...

I’m a big fan of JPJ of Led Zeppelin. I love his jazz bass in How Many More Times

and what is and what should never be

That “warm, deep, but never lost in the mix” bass is what I want when I pick up my Jazz.

For me, Family Man Barrett has the best Fender Jazz Bass tone.

  9. There's plenty of good J bass tones, especially from players who use more than just the bridge pickup....;)
But another vote here for "Family Man" beat me to it thabassmon I was thinking of Mr. Barrett as I read down the page.

Tommy Shannon nails a classic jazz tone in every song I’ve heard him play. This is just one example.
