My original thought process was to minimize the effort (using either fingers or a bow) needed to cross strings, so I shrunk the string spacing to a little less than 1" at the bridge. I decided to go the other way around this time, take advantage of the extra real estate on my fingerboard, and extend the string spacing to 1 1/4". I think I was inspired by some thread posted here in the recent past, but I can't find it for some reason. Boy, what a difference! I can really dig in with my bow (Deutsch style, that is) and not worry about brushing up against the other strings so often. Moreover, I think my left hand likes the wider spacing. Strange. Just thought I'd share with those who don't mind their bridges looking like dental moulding. Maybe I'll dress it up later.
