The New Fender Big Block Precision

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by freshmeat1989, Jul 13, 2005.

  1. Fender pickup guru Michael Frank-Braun designed the humbucker in the Big Block to unleash thick, rich, powerful tone. Features an alder body, maple neck, and rosewood fretboard with 20 medium-jumbo frets and block inlays. The black and chrome motif gives it a dramatic look that shimmers under the lights.

    List: $1,099.99
    Sale Price: $769.99

    Alder body
    Maple neck
Rosewood fretboard with block inlays and 20 medium-jumbo frets
    34" scale
    Single humbucking pickup
    Modern-style bridge
    Pickup split switch
Master volume and stacked treble and bass tone control

  2. Two Questions. One: where is it made?
Two: is the neck a precision or jazz?

Looks like it could have the awful finish the Aerodyne J's have.

cool, but i wouldn't pay close to 800 for it.
  5. I like to check one out. If it's successful, maybe Fender will make a nice five string version.

I don't like the looks of it. It looks like it was thrown together from spare parts. The '51 P-bass style contol cover is all wrong, IMO.
  7. Why is it awful?

That control plate looks so out of place... I'm not liking the all black theme, either. The block inlays are a nice touch, though!

Shiny fingerprint magnet. It just looks cheesy to me. JMHO.

I got it! It looks like a poor copy of an early '80's G&L L-1000!

  12. I dont think it looks too bad. I do agree however that the voume controls look a little weird. If I wanted a humbucker on a Fender Precision, i'd rather just spend an extra 2-3 hundred and get the P Deluxe. I think the one humbucker bass it just Fender Corp's answer to Ernie Ball's Musicman.
  13. Sorry bout that!

You can't blame Fender for trying new stuff.

How long can the P vs J thing go on anyway?

Er... the Precision has had a humbucking pickup since 1957...
  18. The bridge is somewhat interesting.

    Something along these lines...
