I'm always on the quest for the most quiet rig possibly. What are so noise obstacles you have faced and what did you do to overcome them? Did you use gates, eliminate noise at the input level, upgrade electronics, etc.?

  2. I bi-amp, and use all balanced connections to eliminate hum. All components plug into a single power strip, so all use the same wall power supply to eliminate ground loops.

The fan in my PLX power amp makes a bit of noise, but this is a non-issue outside a recording studio.

Shield your basses and pickup cavities.

Use hum cancelling pickups such as the DiMarzio types. A P-bass is hum-cancelling by design. If I remember correctly, so are the MFD pickups in G&L and the Stingray pickups with the 3rd coil.

not sure if its snake oil, but i use humfrees on my rack items and haven't had any ground loops that way either.
