Hey, I want to found a new club here. I got inspired by many of the responses I had to this little guy sometime back:

    http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f8/more-fender-bass-rarebirds-797193/?highlight=

So I wanted to start a club a few weeks ago for the Fender Oddities and Rarer models, and for those of us who own and love these instruments. Sure, Fender Ps and Js are great (I own/owned both at some point), but let's celebrate the other cool Fender instruments that either never got a chance, disappeared all too soon, or were just unusual.

To join, just show us your Oddity/Rarebird from Fender, and ask for a number.

    What are NOT rarebirds:
Standard Precision Basses (4 or 5 string, fretted or fretless, MIA/MIM/MIJ/CIJ)
Standard Jazz Basses (4 or 5 string, fretted or fretless, MIA/MIM/MIJ/CIJ)
    Deluxe Precision Bass Specials
Deluxe Active Jazz Basses (4 or 5 string)
American Deluxe Precision Basses (4 or 5 string)
    American Deluxe Jazz Basses (4 or 5 string, Non FM/QM - FM/QM is ok/rare!)
    Mustang Basses
    Jaguar Basses

    Some examples of rarebirds:
American Standard Jazz Basses (88-94 Longhorn/Boner)
    JP-90s
    Zone Basses
    Dimension IV Basses
    Precision Bass Pluses
    Jazz Bass Specials (MIJ)
    Coronado Basses
and many others, see the above for some more examples...

I will start with this Fender MB-5 I own, and give myself #1:

Does a Jazz Bass from a series that was only made for less than a year count? If it's vintage?

    What type/series was it?

Nope. The binding with dots is cool, but ultimately it's still a standard Jazz.

I have a squier mb-4 with red (see through) to black fade on the outside. It's my first bass I got 8 years ago, but no pics :(. I didn't think mb-4s were that rare though.

Pretty sure I could find a JP 90 faster than I could a 66 with dots and binding.

I'm pretty sure you could also find a JP90 faster than a slab export Precision from 1966. You're missing the point. The club is celebrating the odder and rarer models from Fender, not rare individual examples of the standard models.

No one wants to join? :( This could be a really cool club!

  10. I have a pair of Fender Roscoe Beck V basses. They belong in the Awesome Club but perhaps in here as well.

Speaking of oddities (and it's listed in your what is list) I never heard of or saw a Fender Dimension IV before till tonight on our local CL. Wants 350 with case and looks nice. Can anyone enlighten me. I think I'm gonna check it out as I do love oddities. Where were they made. Appears they were produced mid 2000 and quickly disappeared. If I buy, then I am joining this club for sure!

    Would an Urge 2 qualify?

  15. Can I get in with a 1985 Squier Katana bass?

  16. My friend had the Fender branded guitar version. We called it a Flying W!

  17. hahahah it's a fun little bass. Short scale, and weirdly shaped. I still need to use it live.

  18. I'd totally rock one of those!

  19. That's crazy. I just won this bass from you on Ebay, and was wondering if the owner might be on TB.

  20. Well it’s just a darn shame this thread died because there are just sooo many great examples of oddball Fenders. How about getting some more pics in here? I just saw a 91’ 40th Anniversary Fender bass which I’d love to have.

These are real Fender prototypes let out into wild briefly, sadly they didn’t breed.
