Try it with the neck on, using a small screwdriver while manually backbowing the neck with your hand to ease the pressure on the truss rod nut. It should turn quite freely if the thread is properly lubricated. Works for my '74 :)

I loved the look on my charcoal frost P, but not having the notch for truss access was too much for my OCD to handle. There is a company out there that custom makes them (ie; truss notch, correct screw pattern) but they’re insanely expensive. My neck is plenty stable and it’s not like I need immediate access at all times, so I should probably get over it...because it looks so damn good!

I’ve had mine for a few years now and it is only just starting to maybe need one. It isn’t a regular thing. I will sit down one day and do it right. take the neck off, clean everything, switch strings

  4. Well after many years with a squier Matt Freeman pbass I finally got a USA fretted. I also have a Tony Franklin PJ fretless. 20190301_160510.

This bass is a fender mod shop professional in fiesta red and the 60's original pickup not v-mod. I have a set of la'bellas waiting to go on.

Most people see the mod shop as pointless, but I got what I wanted and didn't mind spending the extra $200 for what I wanted.

I'm usually not a huge fan of the gold anodized guards, despite my sometimes desire for one on my Precision for historical effect, but that combination looks awesome.

Lack of truss rod access would probably get to me personally, but I've been spoiled with easy-access truss rods for too long and I'm afraid I can't go back. I wonder if anybody makes a 13-hole version with a notch...

•Fender Mexican standard my 1st ever Fender. EMG active pickups,Omega bad ass II nickel played brass bridge,1ply white pickguard,Dunlop strap locks,”F” logo neck plate, Mexican Standard Jazz Neck

•2004 Red Fender Deluxe P Bass special. Fender deluxe big block brass plated bridge, standard active EMG pickups, tortoise shell pickguard, Dunlop strap locks,F logo neckplate

•2018 white Fender Deluxe active P Bass special. Deluxe big block brass plate bridge, all parts Vol/tone knobs,EMG x series active pickups,Dunlop strap locks. I built this bass by ordering/buying the neck and body & hardware included from the stratosphere. I then bought the pickups and 18v battery compartment while I already had the rest of everything I needed. By doing it this way I saved $350.

    • 2011 Black Fender deluxe active p Bass special.Deluxe Big block brass plated bridge, EMG Xseries active pickups,All parts vol/tone knobs, red tortoise shell pickguard, F logo neckplate,Dunlop strap locks.

I modify all my Basses to look, sound, perform and feel the way I need them too. Nothing of mine is stock. I use only Round wounds as well.

Thank you sir! Bookmarked. IMO $110 isn't too bad considering that there isn't huge demand and no official version exists (I'd expect Fender's own official part to cost at least half that).

You can also check STRATosphere. I have seen fully loaded gold pickguards on there.

Used to play lots of Maiden with this bass, thus I installed a Badass II bridge and Seymour Duncan SPB-1 pickup. We’ll, after throwing on some heavy gauge flats I decided to go back to its original bridge and threw on a red tort guard I had laying around. Topped that off with a thumbrest as well. I’m digging this new look, this bass hasn’t seen one in more than 15 years. Here’s a before and after pic.

I played one at Truetone Music in Santa Monica when the limited run was issue. Sooo light!
Wish'n I'd bought it now, they were priced in the 7-8 range IIRC. Good fretwork, too.

Got this beaut on the TB Classifieds. American Standard 2011 FSR. Ash with ‘hog stain. These came with the not-great pre-2012 pickup. Love it with a Lollar. Sounds huge, plays great. Around 8 pounds. :smug:

I sold my American Standard Precision 5 about 6 years ago and kind of regretted it. Happened on a good deal for a 2016 AS-P5 with flats on it late last week so I bought it. I need to take a pic of my 3P's.
