The Official Ibanez TMB Talman Bass Club

Been wanting a new pickguard since I bought this thing nearly five years ago. Not a fan of tort in general and especially not what this comes with. Never had luck finding a white pearloid that didn’t cost an arm and a leg to ship from Europe. My wife knew this and found this gold pickguard on Etsy and got it for my Christmas. Fit was pretty good but I did have to file it down a bit by the input jack. Otherwise I think it looks pretty sharp. Even came with the gold screws.View attachment 4913770
Do the holes of the kickass bridge match up to the original holes or did you have to drill new ones?

The new bridges and the kickass bridge have different mounting screw locations. I had to drill new holes to mount a kickass on my TMB30.
The old bridges have 17.5mm between mounting holes, and the kickass bridge has 17.8mm. The difference is small enough that you can get it mounted without too much trouble, but the outer screws may be just a tiny bit tilted.

I installed HipShot HB7 Lollipop tuners on my TMB100. The screw holes don’t line up to the originals, so I had to plug them and drill new ones.
Hey eastcoasteddie, did you have any trouble with the HipShot HB7 tuner install process (except for having to drill new holes)? Did the tuners fit nicely into the headstock holes? I ask because HipShot says the ferrules are 18mm, but I measured my TMB headstock holes at 17.5mm. Sometimes 0.5mm doesn't matter, especially with wood or soft materials.

I did have to “sand” the inside of the holes in the headstock. I took a 1/2” drill bit (and a drill) and wrapped the bit with sand paper (3x around the bit did the trick) and just slowly ran the drill and sanded the inside of the hole until I was happy with the fitment of the 18mm ferrules. Didn’t take much at all, really.
I used plumbing sand cloth, comes in a 1.5” wide roll so it’s not so difficult to deal with sheets. Or you can just cut a sheet into long strips, enough to wrap the 1/2” bit 3x. I used a bit of tape on the upper end of the paper to hold it in place on the bit.

Ok, I've been on a hunt for a TMB300 for a looong time. They are not around anywhere. There's one on Guitar Center's Website. It's banged up and I would rather have any other color than the burst version. What's the deal folks?
a) Anyone know of one for sale somewhere online? I emailed a guy hereon Talkbass but he has had it listed for going on 5 years and didn't respond to a previous inquiry 4 years ago.
b) Anyone want to part with their TMB300? preferably the green model?

It's so strange I can't find any and I've been looking for a long time.

Cheers

Ok another question for y'all (I'm in between jobs, so, I'm spending a lot of time practicing and my mind is wandering with mod ideas hahah).

I'd love to get a mid knob installed and put in a 3 band EQ. But, with the current knob setup I dunno how that would work... Has anyone installed an extra knob on theirs? Is there a way to have a 3 band EQ with the current 2 stacked knobs?

If the harness is linked/connected, it would depend on the lower two pots spacing. If it is consistent with the control plate - you could route the body for the upper 3rd pot under the pg.

I've installed extra knobs on both my Talman basses. I did it to install Tone Monster preamps in both of them. Although my preamp has only Volume, Blend & stacked Bass/Treble.

My experience was the swimming pool was crammed pretty full already. It wasn’t so easy pulling out the existing EQ board and getting it back in. Routing would be a good idea.

I added a knob and a switch for an Audere three-band pre.

I installed a 3-band Bartolini EQ on my Mezzo. Not the same knob layout I know, but they can be ordered with stacked knobs in various configurations. I had 4 holes available so I order Volume, Pan, Mid and stacked Treble/Bass. You might consider that approach.
