I think that Warwick has not done itself any favors by selling all those off-shored models... I submit that it has cheapened/weakened the brand. I'm not a Warwick guy, but I had a lot of respect for the brand. I don't see folks into it so much anymore...

Not saying that I disagree with BOH,...but would you say that the same is true of Lakland? Music Man? Brubaker? or any of the other high end manufacturers that are trying to carve out a share of the budget market.

Also FWIW,...I bought my Thumb BO new in 2000 for $1500,...not really budget,...but hardly high end $$$$$. I have no idea what the street price is on these guys these days. Seems like a new higher end Skyline (Deluxe?) hovers around that price.

I've been satisfied more or less with my 13 year old Thumb BO for 11 years. Would I buy a new one? Probably not since I can't afford one. Would I buy a Korean one? Hell no.

I am looking for a change and interested in swapping out the pups. If it is cool with the hammer wielders here is a cross link to the thread in the pups section (if you haven't seen it). Opinions are greatly appreciated.

Any Warwick Thumb Users Switch to a Passive System?

And as a gesture of good will. I already have a number although I have no idea what it is,...nor do I care. ;)

i guess non-fans tend to enjoy pointing out when the mighty have fallen. i do it myself sometimes. but i've heard it in reference to warwick a lot lately, and there are two things to keep in mind here: first, it's a reality of the times we live in that a company like warwick needs to have more affordable stuff on the market to stay relevant and grow. virtually every major company does it. and if you don't, you end up like rickenbacker: a diminishing, antiquated company. second, warwick basses are exceptional instruments even to this day. the made-in-germany stuff is outstanding; even the standard production models are extremely well-designed and constructed. and the eastern-made stuff is certainly no embarrassment either, from what i've heard and experienced. so it's like...you can assume what you want from a company doing a part of its production in the far east, but remember this is warwick, not ampeg we're talking about.

I don't like the asian warwicks becuase they are mostly made of maple. (at least thats all i've ever seen them made of) no bubinga, no ovangkol, no wenge, no afelza, and honestly.. they just FEEL inferior. They sound fine. there are lots of them being played here at MI. But to me, they just FEEL like a budget buy. they feel like i'm playing with a toy. and it disinterests me.
WHAT I DO NOT LIKE, is that they are being sold at the OLD warwick price range. and that german 'wicks are being sold at like 300% higher prices.
Pricing themselves out of the game, is what hurts them. I don't know anyone in the states personally, that owns a german made warwick that was made since rockbass started and the german prices soared. I know I don't. And, well probably never will, simply because they are too damned expensive. and I own FOUR, almost five (layaway) of them. all german.
Oh but how I love them ...

well the rockbasses ARE inferior. nobody's saying a rockbass is as good as a german warwick. they're supposed to appeal to the young and poor. and honestly, while i do think the rockbasses are a little too expensive, when was the last time a german warwick was priced under $800 brand new? it's been a while, and inflation is happening to every brand, not just warwick. a new, german-made corvette $$ is about $1800. give them some slack because it's an import, and it's really not far off from the competitor's prices: it's almost $1700 now for certain colors of music man's top-of-the-line stingray HH model. and that's just entry-level for warwick, they go waaay higher in terms of sophistication and price point as you no doubt know. summary: the best is always expensive and nothing's getting cheaper.

The 2 I owned didn't dive at all, but I would say that the usual prescription of a wider strap with a rough material on the bottom will probably help.

Thanks for the advice!

As a part time player looking to fill a void in our jams (cant find a bassisit) I have been playing a Squire 5 string but find the neck way to fat and spacing to wide. It does sound great but going from guitar to the bass is litteraly a stretch.

So as a newer player looking at the Warwick and comparing them to everything in that price range it is different.
Even though its cheaper at $500 it has better quality than most others, the strings have a better tension, the low "B" sounds superior, the look is not cookie cutter, the weight is so much better, the tuners are very good, the active PU and pre sound much better than the others I have tried.

Yes they may not hold a candle to the higher end models but they do still have a quality that is a few cuts above the others in this price range.

My main guirtar is EBMM JP7 so I know what a good guitar should feel like.

just like fender makes their budget basses in mexico, korea, japan....and dont forget squiers because tb highly praises those basses

I use a four inch wide leather strap from Italia Straps for my Thumb which is a beast of a bass at ~11lbs. No neck dive and way more comfortable than the cheapie nylon straps. Very high quality.

Search the TB Bazaar subforum,...there is a TB only private sale for Italia where you can get 2 really nice wide straps for the price of one (~$70). If you play low slung or a member of the TB big guy club get the longer strap.

Ok, so I want to buy a Warwick PS Corvette bass. I went to a local shop, and told the owner that I want the same model coloured nirvana black . He told me that Warwick has stopped making the PS series in Germany, and all their models are now made in Korea. As a result, if I want to order one (instead of buying one of his German-made ones), that would be made in Korea, which would result in a poorer sounding/looking bass. Is this true, or the guy was just trying to sell me the stuff he had in stock?

I have a warwick 2006 limited edition thumb bolt on " Dirty Blonde"....truly love this thing....amazing tone and looks!!
It is the pic in my avi right now...

Wishing i never sold my black vette $$ not long ago....really miss it...

wondering how to join up and get a member number issued or whatever??

Hi, I'm new to Talkbass, but not new to bass playing! I'm a Warwick girl at heart. Got my first Warwick bass ten years ago, and recently bought this beauty:
