For those of you with deep pockets, I stumbled across this on LA Craigslist. The rarest of all
Rickenbacker Basses. The elusive 4005 with.... wait for it... DOUBLE BINDING!

I have no idea if this is a good price or not, but I thought some you Ric nuts might be interested.

  2. Holy smokes. Quite amazing the condition it's in too.

When did the San Fernando Valley become part of Northern California?

  6. I like the classic rear single checkered binding more.

Not quite the "rarest." Now, the lightshow 4005, THAT's rare. Only five made. Also, perhaps only two lefty 4005s were ever made. And only two 4001/8 potato-head were made. And there have been several one-off construction or finish experiments out there in bass land. So, maybe this one is "medium rare.";)

It's listed in SFV, but in the actual ad, it mentioned 'NoCal'.

I assumed the seller listed this in multiple areas, but is actually located somewhere in northern CA.

So I suppose with this kinda thing, the point is to buy it, then wait a while, and sell it for a profit?

cool bass - the bridge is similar to the gen 1 T-bird - did it have a different bridge at one point? (6 extra holes below bridge)

I've never understood binding. Specifically, why people like it. Just cosmetic, right?

  16. Amazing bass, but...

Major CL annoyance of mine. When sellers cross post in an area not even close by... LA's like a 5+ hour drive from Sacramento depending on traffic...

When I hear stuff like this, I have to wonder, what happened to it? Did you sell a bass you had for 38 years?

  18. I think I accused Jeff of taking a walk on the dark side using an SVT, but nope was a false alarm.
