I'm not a major hip hop fan, but I admire these guys ability as businessmen. They seem to be making some good investments.:)

Indeed but there's a difference between "talking about b***es and a**es and gangbangin' yo' a** off" and "talking about some scientific findings etc.".;)

ps:I'm not saying all rap is "gangbangin' yo' a** off" stuff, I'm saying those are like that aren't worth a dime to me.:)

I hear ya! Just a decade or two ago rap was an art, now it's more of the same ol' soulless "musical fast food" that rock has become..:rollno:.

Or maybe I'm just getting old...

You all seem to be missing the point. The richest rappers are making far more money from investments than rapping.

Sure, the numbers are impressive, but when you're that popular you can sell your half eaten piece of toast.

Any A-hole with a wad of cash can pay someone to make investment decisions for them. I don't think they themselves are very smart beyond following the model that precedes them.

  10. That's an odd thing to say considering the fact that the vast majority of musicians, athletes and otherwise formerly broke people who suddenly made a ton of money off of their talents end up broke in no time flat because of bad investments.

I must admit I am a tad envious at times, as it seems that talent means little to nothing in the rap industry anymore. It seems like it's all image, and knowing the right people.

On the topic of the music itself, I almost never listen to it myself. but I did come across two songs from the 90's that really got me going. I had to go to itunes and buy them. I almost forgot that black people used to be cool! :D

Well my point is that they, themselves are not investment strategists. And by that I mean artists*(I feel dirty using that word) the rappers, are not.

    however...

Diddy, Jay Z and Dre are different, they were smart and learned the trade, I don't really consider them to be rappers anymore, they run labels and clothing companies, they are not merely pawns like the low level rappers they employ.

Here is an example of coolness California Love.

This song made me love rap back in the day. I don't remember what made me never listen to it anymore though, probably has something to do with MTV I don't know.:D

  14. The fact that most other musicians, athletes and otherwise formerly broke people are financial morons doesn't make these folks financial geniuses - mostly just top turd on the dungpile.

  15. ^^ I was listening to "Hurricane" by The Click, and "I Wish" by Skee-Lo. Don't ask me why, but I never really could get into Tupac for some reason

I don't know who those are and I'm not really into Tupac either. Actually it's the only Tupac song I know, but I still listen to it since probably 95.:p

Jay Z, Diddy, and Dr. Dre are not kids. They have been in music for twenty years more or less. If they were dumb and wasteful, they would been broke and washed up long ago. If they were anything other than rappers, there would be no question of their financial intelligence.

One of the best things about so many people connected to hip hop is that a large percentage of them have been financially successful, and have had diverse careers. Most are much smarter than they get credit for being. A great example was how Ludacris took Oprah down a peg or two through the media when she edited an interview of him to try to make him look silly when he was doing media to promote Crash. He forced her to stop being petty towards rappers and give them basic respect.

We all know about rappers who are broke or dead, but I think the number who have had sustained success is quite remarkable.

Interesting that the one leading the pack has got to be one of THE worst rappers ever. :rollno: I've been very disappointed by the direction so much hip-hop has taken in the last twenty years...

  19. I still kinda don't know who they are. I only know now that I looked for the songs :D
