Here's my SR496, a little worn out but I really like it.

I upgraded the electronics with EMG HZ and a Bartolini preamp, and a Schaller bridge is on its way

Sorry for the bad quality pictures, my cellphone isn't the best thing when taking pictures

Yes, it's the 5.4 harness.
Was a huge upgrade from the EQB3 my bass had, the overall tone is more defined, before there was too many mids with almost no difference with the treble at max.

I suggest you to check the space in the cavity. Inside mine there is a big mess with cables but it works fine with 18v. Barely...

I misspoke, it's my 97 SR406 I meant. It's got the battery in the compartment, so I think it's good space-wise. I'm planning on only 9v, but is there a big difference between 9v and 18v?

Pickup upgrade may follow, also thinking Barts...

Here's a picture of the compartment with 2 rechargeable batteries (a little bit longer than regular ones). As you can see it's pretty crowded hahaha

I can hear it's louder and with a little bit more low in 18v. But maybe it's just me. Bartolini says there's 6dB extra headroom

As for pickups, I also want some Barts but the pair of M4 are quite expensive, besides, I got both EMG HZ for 75 bucks so can't complain :D

Never - flats are Kryptonite to Ibanez SRs' IMO. They require SS or nickel rounds bare minimum to stay healthy. ;) :)

Appears to be the same size cavity, but wow is that crowded. I can't even say it's the second battery's fault either!

I've tried them. Someone gave be a set of chromes so I tried them on all my basses. If I was into flats then I'd say they sounded pretty good on my SR500. they mixed well with the MK1 pups. Noting distinct about it, it sounded like the typical flat sound to me. If your thinking about using flats on your Ibby then go for it.

It plays great for me, I went in to the shop to compare an SR300 and a Yamaha TBRX304. They had the Yamaha as well, but while it played well I found the SR to fit me and play better. They had this one way up on the wall, with a $250 price tag. My other bass has flatwounds, so it's taking a little time to get used to the Elixirs this comes with, but they sound pretty good.

I may go for the SR206, but I'm not all that keen on white, and I really don't like that fugly brownish-red SR506.

Go for the SR 256 instead, the price seems reasonable, it comes in pearl white, and it's got 24 frets instead of 22, which is the case of the 206.

Too bad you don't like the color on the 506, they're pretty good basses, but I know what you mean, sometimes having a musical instrument you love to look at is as important as the sound it may have.
