@hypercarrots @Killed_by_Death These are a few pages from the 1992 catalogue that my dealer let me take home while I waited 6-months for the SR885 to be completed. I had a cool option to request a padauk top so I took it. The SR9xx series had a P/J pickup arrangement (second page attached). Either way, thanks to both of you and I'll make sure to double-check my old one when the time comes to order a replacement.

those catalog pages don't show the SR895 because it was released later in 1992. I posted a photo of an SR895 from a catalog.

i found the photo you posted of your padauk top earlier in the thread. i've seen that body wood configuration on 4 strings but not on a 5 string until yours.

5 string SRs don't get PJ pickups in that era. they get the two AFR-J5 pickups. later SR885 got the ADX5 pickups. I was thinking yours was a SR895 not a SR9--

So my '92 SR800 came today! For an almost 30 year old bass it's in exceptional condition except for 1 or 2 minor dings, scratches and electronics hiss which I assume is just part of active basses. Very, very flexible EQ which I really quite like. Volume, pickup sweep, treble/bass volume (Stacked.) and a mid stack with volume on the top and frequency on the bottom.

The action is a little high but nothing a little adjusting can't fix. (The great thing is, the seller packaged the bass besides a gigbag, at least 4 truss rod and saddle screw adjustment keys along with an SR300E barcode tag.)

i have a few ibanez with that accucast b IV bridge and i've had to shim the neck when the saddle plate won't go any lower.

I have a 1992 MIJ SR700G, great bass. Does yours have a 38mm nut? Mine has a 42mm nut, and I can't seem to find any documentation of SRs that came with the wider nut.

My first foray into the SR's thicker-sounding brother - a 2006 MII SRX650.

I of course had to replace the gold Accu-cast B200 bridge with the collapsed saddles. The new chrome saddles seem ok, I made sure to hook the string ball ends into the higher notch, as to not create such a steep break angle. Of course, I ripped out the crappy 2-band EQ and went passive... those alnico PFR's are very decent sounding pups! And the thicker rounder neck is very comfy.

My question is the color - it obviously has seen some sun fading, but it's got this funky violet tinge on the forearm contour. Is this typical fading for this color (bright blue transparent, "BBL")? Or did the previous owner have a unique body chemistry ??

i took the fretless neck off my sr800 to replace it with a fretted.

while looking up this picture in my old old conversations, coincidentally you were the one interested in it but i never heard back from you. looks like you went 5 string anyway...

Oh yeah! Sorry about that. I had a hard time deciding to fix my 800 up or not. Its original neck isn't stable anymore and I nearly messaged about that again a few months ago. What it really came down to is the string spacing over 17mm.

Dressed and strung. Now I just need to wire it. I've only tested it with frets and pluged into a portable blue tooth speaker. It had an intermittent short in the output jack.
So now its gutted to be wired passive vol/tone,vol/tone. The pickups are Carvin split coil jazz which I have no idea about. Looking to replace them with single coils and leaning toward Nordstrand jazz blades (clean&clear).

Very nice bass and you have done some good work there.

I really like Nordstrand pickups so I think you will be happy with them. The blades are an excellent choice for this style of pickup placement. I'll be interested to hear how that works for you.
