I come here with an inquiry for my fellow pre mid switch SR 505 owners.
I happen to notice some distortion from both pickups when playing my A string and also a considerably lower volume from the D string. I haven't tried a different battery since the current one seems to have plenty of charge left if my battery testing thingy is correct.
Also I was wondering about your pickup height too. I have my pickups 4 mm from the bottom of the strings when fretting the last fret. I noticed on a newer SR505 they had at GC the pickups were very close to the strings. Ibanez' manual doesn't state a standard or recommended height/distance from the strings so I figured I'd do a screening of the SR club to get an idea.

My pickups are about as low as they can go. No noticeable difference in string output to me, and no distortion.
Well, I really did like the sr775 (w/ its elixir rounds) at the local shop. However I sort of wanted to avoid routing for soapbars. Though it was considered because I still have that template and it narrowly fits.
Seriously considered big single (bridge)/ big blade (neck) rather than a pair of big splits due to my string preferences.
I want it to sound good with rounds but also don't want to anger whales or sound engineers with Labella tapes.
Add to that my daily player has Barts original series (dark neck) classic (brighter bridge). Easily mocks a P bass or ray but no j bazz equivalent. Its generally dark and mid forward. Those scooped out phased tones work well with tapewounds.
The closest I've ever had to a bass with single coils had MEC splits

Hi all! This is my first TB post and I'm looking for opinions. Did I come to the right place?
There are 2 really tempting basses for sale in my area.
1. SR1806e for $950USD with a couple of minor blemishes and dings. I've never owned a six string, but always wanted one for chord voicings and variety.
2. SRF705 Portamento for $700USD in really good shape. Always wanted a fretless.
I know these are 2 entirely different beauties and it's a matter of personal taste. I'm sure I'd be happy with either one and I know I should try both before making up my mind, but...
Question is:
Is one a better deal than the other?
Anyone have experience with either. Good or bad?
What would you do?

Wanting that Jazz bass tone I think you're on the money with that sort of choice.
I've played and liked both tough choice. I'd as my self if I want high chords or mush the most and go from there. Both are in the lower end of the going rates so that doesn't help a bit. Sr1806 may even replace a 4 or 5er as it's a serious piece of kit. The portaminto I preferred to the GWB35. It would make a really good first fretless. The piso and mag pickups blended can do a passable EUB impression. As a mostly string player I look at them both a 2 in 1.
Truthfully, I don't know. It LOOKS like wenge, but I don't know if it was an option in 1994.

looks like someone swapped out the original pu's and electronics along the way also. It now has active EMG's with a passive tone control for each.

My hearty thanks to Nordstrand for coming through with a new 3b pre-amp after I killed the original in this SRFF4505 with a static discharge. Somewhere there's a thread that says 'don't adjust your saddles with metal tools while the bass is plugged in and you are rubbing your feet on carpet". I missed that one. Probably could have salvaged most it, but I didn't like the EQ behavior (Q to wide maybe), and no off switch. New unit came fully wired with volume (push/pull on/off, hurray!), balance, stacked bass/treble (stacked knob hasn't event shipped yet from another vendor), mid with mid switch, and (last and most awesome) a tone drop in the upper left. Easy install with just a couple obvious solder points and a it came with a great diagram to make it all clear. This preamp is not annoying, which is my best review of an on-board pre-amp to date.
Indeed such a beauty. But you've posted those Ben Shepherd's pics of his latest headless bass from Ibanez on a wrong thread.
Ibanez has named its upcoming headless basses as EHB series, thus it doesn't belong to this Soundgear Club.
If you ever tire of that 875 feel free to send a PM. Would go nicely with my 870.
