I was just watching this is spinal tap, and I was wandering what company made the double neck bass derek smalls played for big bottom? it's a lobely bass (in my opinion) and its shaped like a warlock or bich, but I'm not sure about the name on the headstock, was it the really high end symbol or something?

    Correct BC Rich.

The commentary from the Criterion Collection LaserDisc is priceless on this bass.... Harry Shearer says he saw that bass and thought it was absolutely the stupidest musical instrument he'd ever seen, I mean what the heck, a double neck bass? He decided that it had to be played by Derek Smalls.

Because the top one is like an 8-string bass with the bass EADG strings and octave strings.
  7. But that one wasn't like Derek's bass, his was two 4 string fretted necks. The ultimate useless double neck. LOL
    That always made me laugh.
  8. hey you could always have them in alternate tunnings to add some use to them :meh:

Right: Billy's doubleneck is BEAD/EADG, which (aside from the argument that he should just get a fiver) makes sense. A fretted/fretless doubleneck makes sense. An 8-string/4-string doubleneck makes sense. But a fretted/fretted EADG/EADG doubleneck is sooooo Spinal Tap! :p

Tim Commerford's Double jazz is bitchin. He tunes BEAD EADG as well. I want to see some footage of him using it.

    I'm kind of disappointed, actually...
  14. Randy Coven used to have that ridiculus double neck bass with DOUBLE WHAMMY bar!
I can't find a really good picture of that winner other than this one.

He wears it so low that the lower neck is barely even reachable too...

too bad the JT Conklin double-neck didn't exist back then. He could have loaned it to them for the filming.

I think there's another doubleneck that Smalls plays that's 4/4 in the "Eagle" body. Not sure though.

I heard it's on eBay. It's up to $44,000 but no-one has bid on it yet.
