The spring in old Ampegs?

    What is the reason for this? I've seen this in at least five old Ampegs at this point and can't find anything on it on the interwebs.

    Is that an open back cabinet there? If so, maybe just a "tuck your cable/power cord here" thing.

    It’s a spring retainer.

    If you want, the spring and screws can be removed without concern. Be aware though, having a sympathetic rattle back there can contribite to the magic.

    And it takes a really pro tech to calibrate those springs for the most magic...

    You guys are crack'n me up, this particular one is clearly out of tune btw and sounds pretty... bad, however I found a cardboard coffee cup to be a great solution, that or I guess I could remove it but I fear the super secret Ampeg magic might fall out if I do. :D
