one of the great things about being human is being able to play the bass and one of the great things about playing the bass is the inability to agree with fellow bass players on the most simple of things

so lets see what you think the all time greatest bass disagrement is

*note this thread has been created for fun no b**hing at each other please children! this is a pole to find out what bassists moan about the most but can never seem to agree on keep it civil thankyouplease*

in my exp the "fingers V pick" argument has shed the most blood out of any i've seen among bass players i hear familys have been torn apart by it

  3. I voted "Fingers vs Pick", but I'd think "How many strings" should be on there somewhere

F vs. P (not Fender vs. Peavey) by FAR.

The (electric) bass was developed with the intention of being picked.
Somehow the fingerists became the norm (and the elitists).

    ... that too :meh:

bugger jazz vs P and 4 strings vs others should be up there my fault sorry guys

  6. Probably not the biggest dispute, but I've seen some pretty darn heated "cheap vs. expensive" threads.

You forgot to include Carrots vs. Bacon!!

  8. Gotta be vintage vs. new...or boutique. I love to hear how sterile my gear sounds, how it won't make me better, it's all in the fingers, etc. Don't care, I want something very light.

finger vs pick is definately number one

number of strings isint that much of an issue. theres still some narrow minded folk saying "thats not a bass" but most other people own atleast one 4+ sting bass..

tube vs ss might be on the list as well?

I can honestly say I've never argued about any of those, either on Talkbass or in real life.

I think the closest I've come is saying that I don't have any interest in warp speed tapping or slapping demonstrations, which I guess would be covered by "speed vs feeling", but I've never really thought those things were mutually exclusive.

LOL! Well, on one hand carrots help you see, and bacon, well, that comes from the magical animal that gives us hot-dogs, pork and sausage.

    Ego vs ego :ninja:

You think we're bad, go to a motorcycle forum & try asking what kind of motor oil works the best. :D

You know, fingers v pick is pretty bad, but most bassists I meet can agree that it's all about tone. I chose light touch v digging in because that creates the most problems with me. I feel that if you do nothing but either one of those things, it's a sign of poor technique.

  16. Hi.

Wow those are good ones. I would've added these though ;).

    Neck through vs bolt on
Strings through body vs strings to the bridge
    Humbuckers vs single coils
    Combo vs head+cab
To rack vs not to rack
    Pedal tuners vs rack tuners
    9V vs 18V
Made in USA vs made in XXX

The list may be endless though....

Like in the first spot? ;).

    Regards
    Sam

They're all good choices, but I had to go with fingers/pick just because that seems to be the one that people seem to get real dickish about.

The worst subject is the Coverband/original band argument. That's gotta be the dumbest thing to have a strong opinion on musically.

hey c'mon guys if i cant write everything bassists disagree on for a start there's only 20 poll answers availible to get everything on it would take 4 polls and we'd have to have a playoff between them all.... and then someone would disagree with that too :p
