Just wondering if there were any other Toadies fans here at TB. I am a huge fan on the now defunct band. They may not have complex bass lines, but listen to Tyler or Motivational, and you will hear some killer simple grooves.

They just put out a new live album and are playing a show in Fort Worth over the Christmas holiday. I'm really psyched about this, and was just wondering if anyone else here shared the same views. Maybe there will be other TB'ers at the concert.

I LOVE the Toadies!!! Saw them 3 times while they were around, and wish I could see them again! Hell Below, Stars Above was a little disappointing after Rubberneck, but they made a HUGE leap between Pleather and Rubberneck. Great band!

They broke up a year ago when Lisa, their bassist, left. Then about a month ago, they released a live album. And during the week between Christmas and New Years they are doing a small reunion tour in Texas, without Lisa. Also, Todd Lewis, the lead singer, has a new project called Burdern Brothers with Taz, the former drummer for Reverand Horton Heat.

One of my favorite bands. If you read my profile, you'll see Lisa is one of my inspirations. Bass-lines are nothing ground-breaking, but very tasteful, if you ask me. I was sad to see them break up. Tyler and Possum Kingdom are awesome songs; in my book, neo-classics. (Although, I think they have issues, considering the subject of many of their songs.)

  6. New album was released on 8/19. I've been too lazy to pick it up but my brother, an avid fan, has given it his stamp of approval. They're on tour now. And yes, I'm aware how old the thread is.

  7. i love the toadies i was to young to see them in concert but i do love them none the less the bass player lisa sold a bunch of stuff on ebay a few years ago and moved to Europe she had a really cool custom painted Rickenbacker it had a kinda rat fink paint job

  8. I saw them in TX when I lived there. The band did a autograph thing at a local guitar shop (they signed my band's flyer for the following weekend) and the bassist bought used rick at the shop. She didn't use it at the show. I suspect she played the same one you're describing. That particular show was in 96 and was probably one of the best I've seen.

I saw them open for the Chili Peppers in '95, they were great. RHCP sucked, but I saw them years later with Frusciante back in the fold and they rocked.

Going to see The Toadies reunion next month, hooray! I'm too broke/stupid to have picked up the new album yet.

Wow. Saw them the other night, and that is the best term to summarize the experience. Not the biggest crowd in the world, but full of diehard fans which was nice, and a pit that was much more aggressive than I expected. Played a great mix of new and old material, they definitely catered to us fans from way back when. They did a bunch of faux cover tunes (just playing the first few notes), which was hilarious. One of the best shows I've seen in a long time. I'm normally pretty anti-reunion, but any long time fans should really check them out on this tour.

I'm hoping I'll be able to get away from work to go see them in New Orleans in October. I really do like the new album. Much more than Hell Below/Stars Above. I think its a more solid album all the way through.
I used to have a few old VHS bootlegs of some shows that were absolutely great. I really wish I could find those now. :(

  12. I just saw them this sunday actually in Las Vegas at the house of blues in the mandalay bay casino.

    They Were Great! :hyper:

  13. The Toadies opened a tour for my old band back in the mid-90s, right when Rubberneck came out and they had not yet had the big hit songs. Great band, great people. If anyone goes to see 'em, tell 'em Aaron from Samiam says hello!
