The Tractor

Discussion in 'Strings [BG]' started by Youngspanion, Nov 6, 2005.

  1. I just listen to the Allman Bros' "no way out" on the radio. It was a live version and it came to me that his tone was terrific. I know about "the tractor" and all, but what about his strings?

I think I read somewhere he used Fender flatwounds. But a huge part of his tone was from the Tractor...he had the neck pup put near the bridge, and added a Guild humbucker at the neck.

Another tidbit...on the live version of One Way Out, about halfway through, Berry starts the one a beat early. Check it out, you can't miss it. They all get back together after a measure, but it is kind of cool to know that legends make mistakes too!

He used flats early on but was using Roto 66 rounds latter on with the tractor (wish I could remeber which site I read that on).
