One of the great things about TB for me is the fact that:

1 - folks here are very preferential to certain bass makes
2 - some folks get really offended if you "diss" their preferred marque

So, in the interest of fair play, I offer the following:

Alembic (my favorite marque, BTW): too heavy, too expensive (I can vouch for that personally!), "sterile" sounding, and what the <>%^ are low pass filters, anyway?

Sadowsky: It's better than sex. :hyper:

    Fodera: Vic uses one, so .... :smug: Wait a minute .. Vic's a Wanker? Why you $%*^ ... *^(($ ... !)%*# ....

Fender: you have to find the right one ... '70's models suck .. the L series serial numbers are worth it ... they have "mojo" (whatever that is ...)

Gibson: You mean people actually own and use these?

Ritter: They look funny and cost a lot, almost like Alembics ... :bassist:

Sadowsky: Well, not better than sex, but if you insult my Sadowsky ... :scowl:

Rickenbacker: More than just a "Yes" and "Rush" instrument ... :bassist:

Lull/Suhr/Lakland: When you can't get an original, try these ...
    :bassist:

Sadowsky: That's it, I'm getting every Sad owner on TB to look up your address, and we're going to hunt you down like Donald Sutherland in the remake of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." :bag:

Musicman Bongo: It looks like a toilet seat ... say, why is the seat so cold, anyway...?

Sadowsky: There is nothing wrong with your amplifier. We have assumed control. :bassist:

Peavey: They're great for the money. Well, better than Fenders, anyway (note: I am a Peavey owner! ;) ) :eyebrow:

Warwick: Necks like tree trunks, too heavy, they suck at Guitar Center. That, and I've yet to find one that sounds good ...

    Anyway ...

All of this is tongue in cheek, and not intentioned to piss anyone off. I just thought I'd add a bit of levity here. Anyone with more levity ... feel free to chime in.

    Cheers!

    Alan

  2. Heh heh, I enjoyed that. You see the same stuff on Talkbass over and over ad nauseum. How about:

Sadowskys: "They absolutely KILL in the mix"

Carvins: "Great construction and playability but they sound sterile and their electronics suck and their customer service sucks/their customer service rules and I don't like the pointy headstocks"

Sadowskys: They sound great live or in the studio, but not in the music store! ;)

This being said, I still want to try an NYC Sadowsky!

    What's an X Bass?

I've never heard of them... :rollno:

You have a link (or better yet, pics)???? ;)

And why on earth would you want to compare one to itself? :meh:

And what does all that rambling in your post have to do with this new "X Bass"? :bag:

    Gone to a better place
BC Rich = t3h 5uXxor. Poorly built, bad sounding, stupid looking. Except the old ones, before the company "went bad."

Except the old ones suck too, cuz they're pointy and pointy basses suck.

Offering this in the spirit of the first post, as an owner of 3 pointy basses and 1 pointy guitar. No leather pants though.

Fender- has some good, has some bad, too expensive for what they are (I love fenders by the way)

Warwicks-Can't stand them, the electronics, the body shapes (except fortress), and their necks are supposes to be on an upright, not a bass guitar

Ritter- has me GASing everytime I look at one

Almebic- same with the stanely Clarke model

Lakland-Good for the price, quality electronics, just an overall awesome bass

Ibanez-Definately not "I been had", these things are great, and if the people who diss these would go out and try one, they'd learn

Most Boutique builder's- I love them, great looks, quality, and um..quality

    Wish-***?

    Roscoe-I want one so badly

MTD-same with roscoe (both 6 strings though)

Sadowsky- Never tried one, but I hope to someday.

  8. Fender - To me, the best bass in production. Will probably own 6 before too long. Some of there new models (ie: Jazz Bass 24 and P-Bass Special) are okay, Sig models are to die for (I own a Geddy and want a Dirnt) and reissues are giving me major gas (I have two on my GAS list).

    Squier - One word, "Ha!"

Rickenbacker - Great bass and my next purchase will be a 4003.

Ibanez - Should never have stopped making ATK basses cause since they did their line seems to get worse year after year.

Ernie Ball - They had something good going with the Stingray and Sterling basses. SUBs and Bongos (aka: the toilet seat in the first thread) are crap. I love the toilet seat remark, never really t ook notice until you mentioned it.

Gibson/Epiphone - Have no use or time for them. They would sound better roasting over an open fire.

Sadowsky - Wish I could afford one. Great instrument, love the tone.

Lakland - Great line and hope to own one someday.

Peavey - The only ones that impress me are the Cirrus basses. I also like some of their older models (ie: T-40 and Forum basses).

Cort - A Curbow fretless sure would be nice.

    SX - See Squier comment.

B.C. Rich - Should have went out when 1990 rolled around.

That's enough for now. Just had to get my 2 cents in there.

  9. +1. The two ibanezes I owned, Musician and ATK, were fine instruments.
