The "Who Woulda Thunk It?" Thread

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by Peter Squire, Jan 18, 2006.

  1. Things you NEVER thought would happen:

    Who woulda thunk:

That George Clooney would start making good movies?
That John Mayer would make a really good blues album?
That George Lucas would ever make another decent Star Wars film?
That Tom Cruise would become as mad as a cut snake?

yeah, it's interesting how he just suddenly started making good ones in the late 90's and before that it was pretty much pure crap.

I would have to think it had something to do with him hooking up with Steven Soderbergh on Out of Sight. Maybe that gave him a glimpse of something better.

  3. Well, let's see....
1-George Clooney was only in like 2 movies that I liked (Ocean's 11 and something else)
2-Never heard the Mayer album, but I hear good things about it.
3-I hated the new Star Wars movies, all 3 of em.
    4-Yeah, he lost it.

    I'll play:

1- I have yet to see him in a movie I really liked.
    2- haven't heard it
3- I disagree. I truly hated the first two, and the third was still bad. It just looked good by comparison.
    4- I saw it coming ;)

Here are the movies that Clooney was in that I enjoyed or at least felt had some depth:

Out of Sight (Soderbergh doesn't make much that I don't like)
    The Thin Red Line
    Three Kings
O Brother Where Art Though? (The Coen brothers have never made anything that I don't like)
    Ocean's Eleven
Solaris (another Soderbergh, although it did bomb at the box office)
    Intolerable Cruelty (more Coen brothers)

Those are all '98 or later.

Haven't seen either of his recent releases but I think both Syriana and Good Night and Good Luck have been getting lots of good buzz.

    I love Clooney...verging on man-crush territory.:ninja:
'O Brother' is probably still my favourite, though...
"Damn! We in a tight spot!":D
'Good Night & Good Luck' was a good movie. He seems to be a talented director - cannot wait for more of his work.

P.S. Does anyone remember his speech after accepting the
(Golden Globe, i think) award for O Brother? That was hilarious. He should be in more comedies...

...as should David Duchovny(...yeah...really don't know how to spell that.):ninja:

  8. 1. Don't even get me started on George Clooney.
    2. John Mayer made a blues album?
    3. Star Wars kinda bores me. It's for geeks, anyway.
    4. Of course. I've always thought he was weird.

Woulda thunk that so-called "western" music would be based around harmony and even meter while most other musics are based around rhythm and odd meter.
