Thanks to Kevin Smith and Pete O'Leary for hippin' me to this bassist/band...

She led her own band (employing a young man named Gene Krupa), screwed Eddie Condon (eeesh, no thanks), and played her ass off (yeowch). I hope some of the modern players on this board can appreciate how friggin' tight her playing was. She really pulls some tone and lays everything down.

  2. I understand the Eddie Condon meeting may have been a bit of wishful thinking on EC's part, but... She was a hell of a bassist. Such a funky, strong player, and the bass was recorded exceptionally well on those Columbia sessions.
Saw Johnny Frigo last night. He's 86, and spry as a rooster. His bassist, Larry Gray laid down some pure chocolate tone.
    Sleep? What's that?

    Thanks a lot Nick
    Thelma Terry just rocks
    Great playin' and great beat...
And its true...somehow the bass was recorded exceptionally well.
I've heard so many Pops Fosters' and Bil Johnson's recordings which sound 10 times worst....
    Thelma is the one......
