These strings are too long! Or not?

  1. Hi, I'm a bass newbie and this week I bought a new pack of strings. I wanted to try a lighter (100) gauge nickel set. The problem is that the E string seems too long to me (100cm = 39 inches from silk to silk: the unsilked part). Am I right? I had only bought one packet before (rotosound) and they were perfect for my bass (34" scale).

  2. what kind? I play a bass that is 36" from nut to bridge and am always looking for longer scale lenghts.
  3. They are "cheap" (18 euros in the shop) Stagg strings that are not stated to be of any special length. It was the only 100 gauge set in the shop. Yesterday I discovered stringbusters.co.uk and I don't think I'm gonna buy strings in a local store again, but that's another story.

I'm guessing that I'm right and the strings are far too long for a 34", am I?
  4. Clip them off about 3-4 inches past the tuning pegs, and you'll be just fine.
