I'm pondering purchasing an acoustic bass (I'm not sure why, but when has that ever stopped me from buying something before). All my basses have thinner necks (1.5" nut measurement)...MM Sterling, Lakland Skyline JO, Lakland Skyline Glaub (with a JO neck), so keeping with that theme, I'd like to find something with a thinner neck. Is anyone aware of any decent acoustic basses that have a 1.5" nut? Any input would be appreciated.....
Massive 8 year old zombie thread - I have the same question, but thought it better to bump an old thread than start a new one.
I've got an Ibanez EWB30 which as a pretty thin neck, warm full sound, decent projection (for an ABG), good preamp (with a built-in chorus), and great look (for my taste). Mine as a finish that's described by Ibanez as "high resonance" one... other basses of that series (Exotic wood series) have a thicker, glossier finish that sounded less open to my ears. The EWB series doesn't seem to be distributed everywhere currently so they might be hard to find, new, depending where you live. For example, they aren't listed on the USA Ibanez website, but they is the EWB20 model on the canadian, european and australian websites...
Wow, I started this thread 8 years ago. As Bob Dylan said, "Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now...." Since my original posting, I have tried (and owned) a lot of acoustic basses and I think my favorites with the "thinner" neck would be the Godin A4, the Carvin AC40 and the Fender Victor Bailey. I never tried a Fender Kingman. While I'm a Fender guy, I still think the headstock looks weird on an acoustic.
Check out the Tacoma Thunderchief ABG in fretless or fretted formats. I had a fretless 'Chief and the neck was very thin, at least as thin as 1.5"/nut if not a bit skinner.
Try a Fender Kingsman. A Geddy Lee Neck on a ABG. Won't sound like the Thunderchief unplugged. But cheep.
