I got a new hero! This guy... http://digg.com/music/One-handed_bass_player_ROCKS not so much for what he's playing as for that he is playing. Fantastic!
I actully had the honor of playing with guy late at the Chicago GTG. Pretty much when everyone was gone. I had no idea how to play a supporting bass line to what he was playing. It blew my mind. Jauqo was able to pull it off during his clinc. How I do not know. Ill post the vid up on google soon of him at the GTG.
oh man i watch that whole video hoping he would bust something out with his claw! Great video, and excilliant playing. I totally dug it
Me too, just to see him bash away would rule!!! I would do some body knocks with the right hand as well as some neat slide stuff. I mean, I am sure he has tried all of these ideas. I'll have to ask Jauqo what else he can do. Amazing.....
I uploaded a short vid from the Chicago TalkBass GTG. The quality is good, though, im hearing some distortion from Bills rig. Worth checking out though. Thats Jauqo III-X playing with him. The vid should be live this weekend I hope. Ill post the link when it is.
How he doesn't suffer from fatigue and hand cramps is beyond me! It's one thing to just fret notes but to have to constantly hammer on notes has got to be brutal! Whew! Amazing!
Where are the other threads about him, I cant seem to find them. Whats this guys name? He have a website? And yes, thats what looks to be a parts jazz bass with an epoxied ebony or rosewood lined fingerboard and a pearloid pickguard. He also seems to have it tuned lower (maybe BEAD) and hes got a capo and a cloth or towel muting as well.
The Bass in the video is a Warmoth and it's tuned BEAD,the cloth that he's using as a capo is to mute any unwanted notes. He uses the E on the B string(5th fret)as if it's an open E.His left hand approach is a combination of hammer ons, slides, harmonics and traditional fretting hand technique.
A musician around here did that. His arm was broken and he wouldn't be able to move his arm so much anymore. So when they asked how they should put it back, he answered: so that I can still play guitar.
