I've been sitting on this for a while but it's really irking me now that I've seen this on more than one of the GGi5 basses on Reverb that sells for around $4k new. I've been looking at them because I wanted to replace a Modulus I sold a couple of years ago, I just can't believe this is how they leave the factory. This photo is of a new bass, I've seen a photo of another that looks similar. It may very well make good contact inside the neck pocket but it sure could look better, especially for that kind of money. I'm hoping to find a used one with better workmanship.

Wow! I wouldn’t expect that on $400 bass.

That space behind the neck heel is a nice place to keep your credit card.

    Not even close.

What’s so appealing about those basses?

    Looks a kid's summer camp arts-and-crafts project.

It can also hold multiple bass picks in there.

  9. Yeah, that is pretty shabby.

It’s only worth $4k if somebody pays $4 for it. Do you have any picks from the sold for $4k with that poor of a fit?

The first pic wouldn't bother me, but that second pic is unacceptable. I wonder if it's a case of the molds wearing out over time? Even so, not acceptable.

It looks like the neck pocket has been trimmed after clear coat applied. I say that because of what looks like chipping in the clear at the edges. Im not a builder, but I believe coating, sanding, buffing occurs after the cuts. Maybe the neck pocket joint needed to be adjusted to fit the neck toward the end of assembly? Just speculating.

I’ve been seeing Gould basses as an option but if that is typical of the workmanship then no thanks. What about asking Geoff Gould himself (he’s a TB member who often posts in the Modulus thread)?

Why don't you mention the maker?

$300 Asian basses at your local small time music store are finished better than that. What else is Gould clueless about?

  20. It might be a good idea to post this to the G. Gould Club thread and get some feedback there. The builder himself was active there and posted as recently as August.
