Ill just make this brief so you can read and move on.

Well i know very well that the musicman Bongo gets the "Toilet Seat" a lot around here, but what is funny (to me) is that when i went to take a leak at this hotel room the toilet seat actually said "Sterling". I stood there with a smile on my face and said

ooooooh the irony!

I hope everyone realizes that in the title of this blog I was speaking ironically... Ugh...

Listen everyone, you need to understand how to use the word irony. Irony is when something expresses the opposite of its literal intention. Family Guy did a couple of great takes on this. My favorite was when Stewie travels to the future and helps his future self get his life together. As part of the revamping he sets up stress-release candles in his future self's apartment. The candles end up burning down his apartment and thereby caused him a great deal of stress. Stress-release candles creating a stressful situation... Ironic.

Here's where the rest of the world misses it entirely (this is an actual quote that I heard earlier today): "So I was at the mall yesterday shopping for new sandals and was thinking of Cory. I went out to the parking lot and it was so ironic because he was just getting out of his car!"

Listen... That is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT ironic. It's coincidental. It's unlikely. It's unfortunate for Cory because now he has to interact with you, but it is NOT ironic. Where is the irony? I can see the coincedence, but I can not see the irony. Do you know why? BECAUSE IT ISN'T THERE!

Please do me a favor world... Stop using the word "ironic" incorrectly.

In closing I would like to add a quote from George Carlin. As with most things in this world, George Carlin is simply better at explaining it than the rest of us, so I'll let him end my bitter rant.... Good day!

Irony deals with opposites; it has nothing to do with coincidence. If two baseball players from the same hometown, on different teams, receive the same uniform number, it is not ironic. It is a coincidence. If Barry Bonds attains lifetime statistics identical to his father's it will not be ironic. It will be a coincidence. Irony is "a state of affairs that is the reverse of what was to be expected; a result opposite to and in mockery of the appropriate result." For instance:

* If a diabetic, on his way to buy insulin, is killed by a runaway truck, he is the victim of an accident. If the truck was delivering sugar, he is the victim of an oddly poetic coincidence. But if the truck was delivering insulin, ah! Then he is the victim of an irony.

* If a Kurd, after surviving bloody battle with Saddam Hussein's army and a long, difficult escape through the mountains, is crushed and killed by a parachute drop of humanitarian aid, that, my friend, is irony writ large.

I just milled nearly an inch of thickness off two sides of a quartered log that's 29"x10"x10"; after making a TON of wood chips w/a router, I grabbed a small Japanese-type pull saw to clean a high spot & cut the beJEEZus out of my thumb. Ironic or just flippin' dumb? I really feel more dumb than ironic.
