check this s**t out: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/science/07/10/stonehenge.fertility.reut/index.html i thought the mystery to stonehenge was how they got put there (being the super heavy things they are) not what it was used for or represented...
uhhhhhhh..........somehow I doubt the claim. I'm sure if they wanted it to look like genitalia, they would have made it look like genitalia, not circles of stacked stones. Mike, I bet that's exactly what they said: some stoned guy belonging to the research team staring at pictures of it from above suddenly yells out, "hey guys! look at this! IT'S A GIANT VAGINA!"
huh? as far as the theory i think its total bs. plus like i said wasnt the real mystery of stonehenge how people of that time period were able to construct it considering the stones weigh tons etc.
I recall an old SNL skit where they show whales pushing the stones ashore upright with their heads. ha ha
Geez, first Georgia O'Keefe paintings and now this... I actually think the theory is quite valid. I had four years of art history classes in college, and one of the major reasons of the existance of art in ancient cultures was the contiuation of the species, evidenced in fertility figures. These could range in any size, and were of the utmost importance as many cultures truly believed that creating these symbols could result in healthy offspring or a continuing life for their people.
ok ok ok, maybe its a valid theory, but still doesnt solve the real mystery of stone henge, as in, how the f*#k did they get those stones there with little to no technology etc etc etc
One of the main theories I've been told is that they would flood the nearby valleys in order to float the stones as close as possible, then move them the rest of the way by using a series of logs like rollers. If you've ever seen the movie Rapa Nui, they show how the stone heads on Easter Island were theoretically moved in a similar fashion. The real difficulty is figuring out how they were able to get the horizontal stones on top of the vertical ones, although I've also heard a theory that this might have been accomplished using a ramp-like structure that went to the top of the other stones, and a series of ropes or pulleys in conjuction to pressure from behind to push them on top.
It's all wrong! they were aliens...duh! spaceships have tractor beams; what do you think they used those for, capturing enemy ships? Nah.
Honestly i dont think how they got them there is as big of a mystery as why it was put up. Because obviously it was going to take a lot of work, so whatever reason they were built, it had to be a dang good one. I actually think a team from some university's history department went out and got a bunch of giant stones approximatly the size of Stonehenge's and tried to rebuild it using the same technology those guys would have had. I haven't heard anything else from them but i'm sure they could do it. Anyone who would like some food for thought, try reading Bernard Cornwell's "Stonehenge" a wonderful book. Completly fictional, but the idea he had was wonderful. Be described them floating the stones in, then using some sort of pully system to pull them up and drop them down into holes. yeah.. read the book.
one of the mysteries is how they constructed it but the big one is what is was for or what it symbolised. we all know of the existence of that continent as having matriarchial(sp) beleifs in its history. it seems a plausible theory to me.
Don't believe them! they're Canadian! That'd be crazy if it was renamed Stonevagina... or Vaginahenge...hehe. I think they should just leave it be,and stop trying to figure it out. -Jon
