OMG! I was hanging out at a music shop that my friend the drummer boy works. He was always telling me how great his bassist is and he called him "the next Flea". I found out tonite that that was an understatement. This kid is insane he's so good. He's only 14!!! I guess its hard how to describe how good this kid is unless you see him or hear his music. There was some old guy at the shop who's been playing bass for 20 years and dropped his jaw at this kid. I told him about this site so hopefully he'll come around and maybe post one of his band's songs. I don't even feel worthy enough to say that i know what a bass is around this kid.
what are you doing man?! never admit someone else is better than you! YOU ARE ALWAYS THE BEST... by that, i mean I AM THE BEST. just know to yourself others are better, and hide it away as it tears you up inside, and eventually, you WILL be better then them.
Look i know i am good and all. Thanx for giving me this site. Oh wait i'm not american and i'm nearly 19. damn! lol Merls
i don't mean to brag but a lot of people have been saying that too me to. i'd like to met this kid and "dual" with him, just for fun
a lot of kids concentrate wholly on slapping when they first pick up a bass, and eventually they get their chops up enough to impress a few people. i am assuming that, since he has been compared to Flea, this is exactly what he's been doing. however, they do so with neglect to almost every other aspect of bass-playing (i would know, i was in the same category for a while)... but ask this kid to walk you a 12-bar blues in F and he'll fall flat on his arse. it takes more than slapping your arse off to make a good, nay, decent bassist IMHO.
Hate to break it to you all, but I can do you all better.... I've been told that, with a bit more practice, I could be the next FIELDY!
I dislike most of what fieldy has done with korn. However, i'm going to defend him (this is quite out of character for me because i really hate the guy). I got this old cd from LAPD a while ago. LAPD was like a previous incarnation of korn with a different singer. their musical style was like a combination of every style of music possible to make one thing that was barely tollerable. My friend described it once as "combining all the colors of the rainbow to make brown". But anyway, back to my point, fieldy actually did some decent bass work on that album if memory serves me. It wasn't the best I'd ever heard but it was more precise and stylish than anything he's done with korn. just a thought.
no offence, but I'd rather shoot myself in the head. I (since writing that) have started to do more stuff on my B, I still rarely drop below an Eb on it, but I've been taking advantage of it more often. I also use it for my ocaisional stroll into "drop d and beyond" territory like system of a down and deftones and stuff. but my bass well never be exposed to slipknot, I forbid it. Not to insult your taste or whatever, you're entitled to it, I just personally do not like them, that's all. thanks for your suggestion.
Server is out, TB It's double-posted now, but at least it's there. As for Deftones and System, neat stuff, as well
Don't rush me. I did say I needed some practice, didn't I? Having said that, I think the trick is in the tuning - You have to tune your bass 1 octave lower.
Well, I might has well give up playing bass, X. That was my aim in life, and you took it all away from me... [sob] [sniff]
