This Strat was spotted in the NYC area recently, have you seen it?

I had posted about a early 70's strat I had stolen in the Boston area.

I got an email from a TB'er in Metro NY asaying he may
have seen it. I will add a description from our PM's.

He spotted it at a show in NYC last year, it is rather unusual.

If you see it, I would like to make a fair arrangement with a
dealer or owner to have it back.

Also, if you can supply me with any dealer emails that would
be helpful in keeping an eye out for it, that would be helpful.

This was my first guitar. 'Nuff said.

Any leads I can be PM'ed thru the board or at thor74 (at) cox.net.

    Your help is appreciated.

Strat 69 or 70. Lake Placid blue, white pickguard. Rosewood
fretboard. Has cig burns on headstock ( I used to smoke Kools).
Has back spring plate removed. Has a yellow sun painted on the
upper horn, and some of the finish was removed when I tried to strip it,
    unsuccesfully back in 1975.

Here is the conversation I had this morning:

You might want to rephrase this first sentence. Did you steal it or was it stolen from you? :D

Good luck. I hope you get it back.

    Good point.

It was stolen from me in Everett Mass in 1977 or so.
Also lost was a 1974 Gibson EB3. I am sure they went
    their separate ways.

I have been looking for it for 30 years. Now it has been noticed.

I am going to PM all the NY guys I can dig up, if I have a
lot of eyes out there, maybe I can find it and buy it back.

    Thanks X!

Thanks gents, I know its a long shot, but there are probably
no other blue strats out there with a yellow sun on the horn.

Also the rod was adjusted from the pocket, not the headstock. The jack was on the side, not angled into the
    top like later ones.

    Update:

I got another PM from the guy who spotted this.

I misinterpreted the first email, he said he saw it at a
'show', read he saw it at a gig being played by the guitarist. Said the guy was about 25. Commented on the axe as he thought it was unusual. Blue strat with a sun face on the horn. Can't miss it.

If I can find the guy, I would pay market for it, and throw
him a finders fee as well to make it worth his while. It likely
has passed through many hands till he got it.

Our 'human intelligence' source goes to a lot of 'shows' in NY, but if he can remember the band name, maybe I can dig up some info and make contact.

I hope you get it back Thor. That would be cool after 30 years!

  10. Yeah, Thor, I got your PM.

I'll make up some signs that I can post at a few bars I go to, which have bands on a regular basis.

I just thought: Maybe you can e-mail Sam Ash, Matt Umanov Music, 30th Street Guitars, et cetera and give them the heads-up in case someone comes in and tries to unload it.

    I'll do what I can.

    Mike ;)

Michael, I'll see if I can find any old pics of it that could be
    scanned.

I'm not looking to demand it, just buy it back, with an incentive
and a sob story to make it right. :)

I just never thought in my wildest dreams it would be spotted
after all this time. Especially being gigged in the city.

LPB strats with rosewood necks are rare to begin with, one
with a sun face on the horn with the finish all beat up is
    one of a kind.

Time to go find the serial number as well. I'll post it here,

I have to dig through the 'Oh Boy" box to find it.
(Oh Boy, I forgot I still had that ....)

Thanks to all you other guys I PM'ed, that puts a bunch of
gigging bassists looking out for me, that is cool. Very cool.
