This tone!?

Discussion in 'Recordings [BG]' started by timidbassist, Jan 30, 2006.

  1. Everyone knows the song.....but how about the tone? The song "Another One Bites the Dust" by Queen has one of the most popular bass lines ever, but I can not figure out how he gets that tone. If anyone knows this (which I am sure a lot do) I would be interested how to get this sweet tone!

    Thanks in advance!

I think he plays a stingray with flatwound strings. He used a pick.

Not sure, wait for others to confirm.

I`m not a Queen expert, but IIRC it`s a Fender Precision.

I can do that. Little bit of drive on the sansamp with my conklin gets it really close.

Cutting the neck pickup(just a bit) on a Jazz with roundwounds works for me.

Nope - he plays fingerstyle - like this :

  8. Stingray, played fingerstyle near the bridge, boosted lows, loud.
It don't sound like his Precision at all, and it's what he plays in the ABTD vid.

The more I muse, the more I consider Mr Deacon something of a genius. Fair play to him for keeping out of the current Queen circus*, despite the mammoth paycheque it would have involved.

*My opinion of which is uncertain.
