Hey, I've been looking for a bas to buy, (it's my first bass I would own, but I've been playing for three years) I noticed that the, Thompson Hybrid Upright Bass, is within my price range on StringEmporium.com. But I was wondering what type of music is this bass suited for? (i.e.:solo, bluegrass, jazz, orchestral)

I own one. It's great for jazz, bluegrass etc. I use my other bass for arco work.

I own one as well. Solid bass.

It ought to be fine for any genre. Setup will have more to do with which it will be better for, but the Thompson hybrid ought to work whatever you want to play. It wouldn't be suitable for a professional orchestra, but it would work fine in a community orchestra.

I own one. Surprisingly good under the bow but I use it mostly for pizz.

I've been playing a Thompson in a swing band for two years. Great bass for the money. It's actually for sale now but only because I upgraded to a New Standard as a retirement allowance from my wife.
