    Not me, though.

I heard an interview with BB King (some sort of guitarist, apparently) where the interviewer asked him what effects he used. He said that he had tried a wah-wah pedal once and kind of enjoyed it, but decided that it would distract him, and he really needed to just focus on being BB King.

We bass players don't tend to be much for effects, anyway. How do you feel about the use of signal modification? Are string and finger dynamics enough?

They have their place and can be fun. I recently got a Zoom B3 and it is fun to experiment with. There is a lot to be said for the bass> cable> amp set up as well though.

    And begin...

Oh, and you forgot about the string and pick (plectrum) technique. Some people use this technique. Not me though. Ha.

Most gigs require a straight bass sound.
I dig effects but the geetar players usually have that covered.

  4. I don't want to be distracted by a bunch of effects. I just want to play.

i only play with effects at home. i don't use them with bands or jamming.

you can see lots of bass players who DO use effects here

btw, were you being humorous when you called BB King "some sort of guitarist, apparently"? or were you serious?

I believe he was a popular guitar player and singer of the last millenium. "Blue" music, was it? ;)

Haven't seen a post from you in days! Where ya been?

I'm a strictly no effects player. I can't handle doing it full time, plus the guitar player I work with usually covers "obnoxious noise" pretty effectively.

  9. I'm in between getting my closets re-organized & getting my TV situation sorted.
I've been through 3 antennas, but at prime time everything goes to hell.
I'm trying to stream online shows to my TV, but the Chromecast is a little fussbudget, constantly hiccuping & just a generally poor picture quality.

Technology, like alcohol, is both the cause of, and the solution to, all of life's problems.
