I have a very nice sunburst Player Precision bass with a maple neck. The pickguard is white and I'm feeling that it's just too bright. Any suggestions for a good replacement pickguard color? I'm leaning towards tortoise shell but I'd welcome any other ideas.

Tort or black. Very traditional, but it just looks right, IMO.

Can't go wrong with tort or black.
... If you're feeling a vintage vibe perhaps anodised gold colour for the '57 look? Gold looks GOOD.

  4. With the maple board, I'd go gold. Rosewood, I'd go tort.

But I don't like playing on rosewood, so I don't use tort; therefore, definitely gold.

  5. Black.

To narrow your choices. Thank me later.

(BTW a thread like this one works better with pics, just sayin'...)

Black, but tort if it's brown would be good too.

Black if it's a 70s-type burst with lots of yellow and red.

Gold anodised if it's a brownish burst.
